I've been on here afew years now and been to a couple of the big breakfast meets at malton and read many of the readers rides threads but never put one up myself so here we are !

My wife has an Audi A4 avant that we have had for 3 years now great for the day to day stuff

And carrying this........

Anyway we decided just before christmas to start looking for another car to replace the Mk3 VR6 that i had used as a run around since april when i sold the S4.

I miss my Mk4 R32 but wanted something abit newer so decided on a Mk5, we went to look at this one on christmas eve and ended up buying it and by 3pm it was on my drive !

For the budget I had I was looking at cars with around 100k miles on the clock which doesn't bother me too much I just wanted to find the best spec I could with good history. So after seeing and driving this one a deal was done.

The spec.....

2007 '07 plate
Ex demo so 1 owner plus supplying dealer smith knight fay Oldham.
Black pearl
3 Door
Manual
Leather Recaro's buckets heated
Mfd2 satnav
Sunroof
Cruise control
Electric folding mirrors with puddle lights
Highline display ( I think )
Parrot hands free
Multi function steering wheel
6 cd changer in armrest
18" Omantys
98k full vw service history all smith night fay Oldham

The R is in really good condition inside and out but does need a really good machine polish as it's looking abit grey and covered in swirls.

Its never going to be a garage queen as i like to drive my cars and enjoy them but also like to keep them as nice as possible.

Here's some pics of it at home after its first wash.......

Cheers,

We went to the cinema last night to watch Taken 3 and when we came out there were security guards all around where my car was parked, as we got closer it turns out that the ford focus that was parked in front and one space to the right of mine had caught fire and was completely burnt out.

Luckily for me the wind was blowing the flames away from mine abit but made a right mess of the 64 plate seat ibiza to the left and the front of the mk6 golf gti that was at the side of mine, the only things i could see on the R32 were lots of bits of melted plastic all over the front wing and bumper.

I haven't had chance to have a proper look yet and see if it has melted into the paint or not but its in for mot tomorrow at Sheffield Volkswagen so have asked them to do a thorough check over the car and see if there is any damage as i will need to claim off the focus owners insurance. I didnt get any pics as it was dark and raining but will try and get some when its in the dealers tomorrow.

I will update tomorrow......

What a story!

I read "when we came out there were security guards all around where my car was parked" and thought you were going to say they were all admiring the R32.

Glad to hear your car survived!

What do you think of the R32 compared to the S4?

I was considering an R32 but ended up going for the S4 as it was V8, more power, similar MPG and cheaper on the old car tax

Apart from the V8 engine the mk5 feels abit more special to be in with the bucket seats and stuff and still sounds nice, they do drive pretty similar too to be honest although the mk5 feels better in the bends ect due to being abit smaller but you cant compare when it comes to the power the V8 is lovely !

I did consider getting another S4 but would have wanted the B7 model and didnt see anything that i wanted to look at so decided on the Golf.

Not quite what I was expecting but hey it's free !

Good news is the R32 passed with no advisories, they also did a complimentary health check and gave the R a clean bill of health so very happy with that and a total cost of £41.50.

After they had given the car a valet I checked the paint and a lot of the soot and plastic had come off leaving no damage so I'm not bothering with the hassle of claiming for it and will get the last of the bits off myself then get the polisher out as intended anyway.
The service advisor did say there was a little bit of rust starting to bubble on the drivers front arch and suggested I get the body shop at hillsborough to check it for a warranty claim.

Here's how the remaining particles look...........

It improves it a lot as it keeps the thing open under the 40mph/ 3000rpm limit. It's better than any aftermarket exhaust as none will do what they did for your Mk4. No overrun on the mk5 at all.

Nothing much to report really other than i downloaded the roadtrip app to keep track of my fuel costs and other expenses, there isnt much on it yet as ive only had the golf nearly 6 weeks but will be interesting to keep updating.

Me and the wife are going to whitby for the weekend 13th-15th feb so will be nice to take the R up there for a blast was thinking about going over to the buttertubs pass on the way back to sheffield, hopefully get some scenery/car pics between enjoying the roads !

Very nice! Kind of wish I'd have at least tried one of these before buying my car just to see the difference between the two.

Will keep an eye out for you around Sheffield so if you see a 1 series flashing at you, it'll be me.
