Lovely car. I've seen that beetle around a few times too!

Currently on the fence regarding getting another gti or a slightly higher miles R. This thread isn't helping!

I did consider getting a gti as my mate had one for 5 years which I did drive a good few times but it came down to the all weather traction and the noise of the R32 that made the final decision.

Finally got round to fitting the Forge filter and led number plate lights...........

Leds are much better than standard and the filter is just nice its not massively loud like an open filter would be but does add a little depth to the engine note on tickover and a more pronounced growl under load !

Had a blast round the Evo triangle at the end of may too which was great............

Nice car OP.

How quick do these feel in the real world? I've kept my eye on the classfields for a while, but not always been sure they would be that fast or feel 'special'. I don't need rear seats so my options are quite wide.

To be fair in the real world they are plenty fast enough but until your into to the top end of the revs and modern tdi will give it a run for its money.

I think they feel special but that's mainly because of the V6 noise, I've driven many miles in a mk5 gti and they are a great car but didn't feel special to me because of the 4 pot, I did consider quite a few different cars before I bought this like Porsche boxters 350z's focus st's E46 m3 330ci ect but as you can see from my history I do like a golf !!

I've been thinking of buying a pair of 'R' pad retainers for a while now but couldn't justify the £50+ to buy the originals and wasnt too keen on having the new style 'R' logo on my R32 so have decided to have a go at making my own 'custom' ones !

I bought the retaining clips which are painted silver and shot blasted them myself at work.........

This is how they arrived.......

The plan is to get them powdercoated in satin black and then add high temp vinyl decals of which i've ordered two different sets off ebay....

This is what the original Golf 'R' ones look like...........

RetainerClips_zpsuntr6x8f by Nick Foster, on Flickr

I'm going for a similar look but with the original R32 style logo

I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks now so the decals should be here when i get back and the clips powder coated ready to collect.

Will update when i'm back !

nice job on the retainers - I too cant justify £50 for them as nice as they look especially seen as its only applicable to the fronts!

I will come back to see how the finished product looks on yours! Nice car and nice pics of the EVO Triangle drive. I too also like that MK2 very much.

Anyway back to the golf.......

Shes been off the road since september while i've been using the Kuga lovely car but decided we still prefer the A4 avant so the Kuga is now up for sale.

The high level brake light packed up on the golf and was quoted £400 to replace it as you need to remove the spoiler to get to the screws that hold it in place
Abit of internet searching and found a thread on golf gti forum showing you the easy and cheap way to do it so £38 later and 30 minutes of my time and its done
