My history. 80's/90's hatches, RSs, 911s and a few bikes
Discussion
Ahh the memory's of the 90's.. I too owned a sr as my first car, silver with grey platic dash. All my mates had them too and we'd go in nova convoys mountain biking . They all upgraded to rs turbos and gti 1.6/9's and I kept the nova until my ex did me the favour of writing it off for me , think I got rid of it in 00?!
Great write up, thanks .

loving this thread !
we appear to have grown up around cars of the same vintage - though I had no-where near as many as you did !
That red GT3CS is beautiful;
I say that from first hand experience having had one identical to yours - special cars indeed - tracked mine all over europe and loved every minute fit.
Had to sell (not my choice..) - was very unhappy.
but things change and I'm now in a 991 GT3CS
whats next for you then ?!

Top read thanks
I'm like you.. but younger.. (And without nice Porsches )
Stunning GT3!
Edit: Special mention to the VFR400 and the 964! Quite like the Alfa too..
Do you feel the GT3 is a bit too nice to use much and you're a bit sympathetic with it now knowing its worth as much as it is? I sort of am with my car and am now looking for cheap fun on the side...

Wow! Thank you everyone. A friend text me this morning (Paul who I bought my GT3 off, funnily enough) and said the thread was on the main P'head page. As I've said before I'm very happy it has struck a chord with so many people. I guess it's a very common path us petrol heads all take, always looking to move up and tinker.
Busy as usual but I will get the thread upto date at some point. All down hill though in the last 12 months. For those who haven't clicked on my house refurb thread earlier. We bought an old house that bled us dry, so unfortunately I was backed into a corner and the GT3 had to go last year. Gutted but to a couple of people above who asked about mileage, value and use, yes it does make you look at it in a different way, which isn't why I'm into cars. So whilst I miss the GT3 it's probably one of the cars I have the least memories in. The 964T on the other hand is the one that got away. With hindsight I should have stopped there but hey, I'm glad I owned the GT3.
Red997 yes I remember speaking to you on here after you got rid of yours. At least your back in one now, good stuff. I'm hoping to be back in a 911 by the time I'm 40. I'm 38 next week. It won't be anything special mind, maybe a 996C4S or 997.
On the plus side I may be off to the Porsche experience centre to drive a Cayman GT4 soon thanks to my mate Paul above. I'm there the weekend before too for the moto GP, so still some petrol head activities happening to tide me over.
As for cars, the current steed is a Volvo V70, the old boxy one. I found myself borrowing my dads for putting my bikes in etc so bought my own. There's been a couple of cars in between but no exotica. I'll fill in the gaps soon.
I'm away and have limited internet for now but managed to get on tonight just to acknowledge the comments.
Once again, thanks very much. I've enjoyed rambling on, so it's good some people have enjoyed it too.
Cheers.

I just spotted this thread via the PH homepage earlier today. I've read all 8 pages and just wanted to say thanks, it was a great read. I'm a few years older (45) but the car choices certainly resonate with me. Also, I'm a local lad (Washington) and can remember frequenting the 'blockys' in Sunderland. My car history is a lot more modest, but in a similar way I've worked up from my Opel Kadett starter car through Astra GTEs and on to various Porsche models. Cheers.
Hi Mark,
Cracking trip down memory lane, it makes me wish I'd taken photos of some of my earlier cars if only to remember in what order I'd bought them!
It's actually inspired me to compile my own list before I totally forget what I've purchased and when.
I can imagine many of our generation have followed a not too dissimilar path, mine was from Mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti (which I quickly supercharged) through many rotten hot hatches (mainly astra Mk2 GTE's) and jap turbo'd mr2's/300zx/Pulsar GtiR's to the current fleet of a 4.5 Cerbera and E46 M3 cab for weekends and E55 AMG wagon & Mini Cooper S F56S as daily's.
With 16 years of car buying and many of them overlapping I'll probably get confused but having been through your thread its made me remeber cars I've owned and completely forgotten about.

Love this thread.
Particularly love the retro 90's photos... my earliest car memories are from around that time, 97-98 when I had my head buried in car magazines as a 7/8 year old!!
I'm 24 now and it doesn't seem that long ago but when you look at these photos (80's cars in the backdrop, no digital photos etc) it makes you realise how far back it was (and how far cars have come on!)
You say you remember the music from the time with each car (I have this too with my cars!) can you give us some examples from "back then" to add to the reminiscence?
