I finally got round to fitting an HID kit recommended to me from another S1 owner. A bit of research proved the kit got decent reviews too.

After some swearing, coffee and a bit of a rain dance I got them fitted. About two hours in total and the car back tucked up before the heavens opened.

A bit of a comparison shot taken at a coffee break, there is a clear difference from the yellow candles originally fitted by Lotus and the new units.

Having a shakedown of the lights to the EVO Triangle in the morning, fingers crossed all ancillaries stay firm.

Pleased to report the shakedown of the new lights went well. Nice level, bright beam and more importantly no oncoming cars felt the need to flash me, not as if we encountered much traffic anyway driving

Looks great with the xenons. I never was happy with my S1's headlamps (a set of Nightbreakers and adjusting them upwards helped) but I could always feel myself hanging back at night thanks to not being able to see!

Also bloody envious of you being so close to some great roads!

What springs/dampers are you running and what do you think of them? I have NTRs on mine and are a bit too firm so thinking about changing but no idea what to.

May give Randy a call and empty my wallet...

To be honest I have only driven it a handful of times at night. The time I felt lacking in lighting on the Elise is in low cloud whilst in Snowdonia.

Got to say your dash looked good the other day all lit up. The stacks on the S1 use the same ethos as the Lotus did for the headlights!

I do live in a decent location for roads, Peaks, North Wales, Yorkshire and the Lakes all in roughly equal distance from me, I do always default to Wales though. I had plans in the spring to do a Ribblehead Viaduct and Butter Tubbs Pass also a Scotland trip but my bloody wedding and scensoredte weather got in the way!

I'm using S2 Bilsteins with Eibach springs. I like them for what I use it for. It is only a weekend car (No track work) so I can pick and choose where it gets driven, most of the roads I use are decently surfaced. I have never driven one with Nitron's, GAZ, Quantum's etc but I prefer it to Konis! It's not due another refresh but I may consider Nitron SS or at least bag a pax in a car that has them. I would't go to far from the set up it is now though (Bilstens and S160 Geo).

I'm sure Hoffmans could get your S160 the perfect set up for you... as you say at a cost.

I don't think I will get too many opportunities now this year to get out on dry roads...so I had an early bird run to Ffestiniog this morning.

I know what you mean.

I went out early for the empty roads and sunrise shots. This then gave me a couple of hours driving before a little cafe in the area opened for a bacon refuel.

Some of the drive there had fantastic scenary but the roads were too good to stop, them views are just in your memory until next time.

The journey home was non-stop flowing, plus the wet sheen had dried from the roads.

Great pics, that last one in particular really shows off the lines nicely. Wouldn't look out of place in a lotus brochure.

Hi mate,

Can I ask, did you ever get around to fitting your 111S mats? If so, did you punch the holes and use the 'locking' kit to hold them in place?

Only reason I ask, is I've just managed to get hold of some 'Elise' mats, but they're in great nick, so reluctant to punch holes in them, just wondered how you got on? Any pics would be great...!!

Cracking thread, always look forward to updates!

Cheers

Hey,
funnily enough I was looking at the 111s mats over the weekend, no I have not fit them yet. I had some black ones made up with a heel pad (the 111s ones don't have a pad). To be honest the aftermarket (ultimate car mats) ones I got look better than the Lotus ones too... apart from the 111s logo of course.

All the mats I have had for the Elise have required holes punching though. One of the earlier pages in this thread shows how I did it... nothing technical really. Here you go:

I managed to punch a clean hole for the fixings through the mats. I ground a taper on to the end of an old socket, worked well.

Hope it helps, remember; measure twice punch holes once! thumbup

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm, does seem a shame to punch holes in good mats, was hoping you may have used another method to fit yours. biggrin

Sticky back velcro has worked well for me on my Hanger111 mats if you don't want to make holes. They've never moved around.

Not mat related, I like the alcantara steering wheel centre. I may consider this when I get my seats done, providing there is some left over material.

Oooh, what're you doing to the seats then? Are they leather now?

There can't be much left to do to your car!

I have the standard 111s seats in black leather with matching sill pads, these are now showing their 16 years. I am getting them recovered later this month in red leather, a charcoal alcantara centre with red stitching.

Whilst the seats are out I will clean the tub up again, this is still fresh from when I did a ‘seats out’ clean a while ago, but I want to paint the floor with POR 15 Silver where the seats go. The floor is not corroded it just has an non-uniform finish with a few scuffs. The POR 15 will protect it and make the newly covered seats sit on a well finished background. The runners will also get a blast, respray in satin black and a greasing.

You should know better than think the jobs on an S1 will stop laugh
