Spartan Mercedes 190 (w201)
Discussion
It’s been cheap enough to run if not 100% reliable. Less than 30p per mile over 85,000 miles. If I remember I run it on E5 super unleaded and it runs much better for it. I fear E10 is not good for it. Twice I’ve had fuel leak problems from the pipe running between the pump and the carb.
I've been neglecting this thread and the dear old Spartan. Gave it an oil and filter and air filter service today. Merc Newcastle had used the Merc oil filter, which is st, and left it almost impossible to remove. A bit of brute force did the trick. The car is on 206,174 miles and this was its 50th service, 22 in my hands and 28 in main dealers'.
It took a nasty car park bash to the driver's door a while ago and the wheel arc on the same side has gone rusty so I ordered a new wing today in readiness for it going to the Man in the next week or two, just as soon as I get the Green Dream Machine back.
(ETA apostrophe. /Pedant.)
