my vr6 golf highline
Discussion
I know these arnt the most loved cars but im a vw man! full heated leather air con sunroof and electric everything!
oh and the 'noise' £1500!
people tell me why don't you so this or slam it or change this, but im happy im not one for keeping cars for a long time, call it boredom. I think I enjoy looking for and buying cars more than owing them!
But obviously it rusts like a rusty thing and turns petrol into noise and not a lot else, its not slow but its well documented that its no hot hatch
but its now under my skin, like all my cars ive owned ive loved them all not in spite of their imperfections but because of them!!
Except one..im looking at you MG ZR!!
anyway the pics are from when I bough the car, (note the Forrester STI in the back round which the previous owner bought to replace the golf..jealous!)
oh and it is a genuine highline

I had to have a quick look to see if it's my old one. Mine was a 3 door manual in black, but on a late p plate. Was a great cruiser, and although not exceptionally fast, driving that engine was lovely.
I note yours looks in pretty good shape, has had a few mods already, lights, front spoiler, and painted calipers. The standard car was on soft suspension so yours looks a little lower. The engine and the somehow slightly distant but stubby gear selection were my main memories. Enjoy.

I love the looks on peoples faces when they hear what they think must be a big sports car and see me in my 17yr old golf! ha
Agree, the noise is intoxicating and quite the head turner.I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of non car enthusiasts who have commented that my VR6s sound nice/different be it the largely standard one or the (much) louder modified example.
It's also amusing if someone does ask what engine is in there and find it somewhat baffling that there is a 2.9L living in there, which 9/10 leads to "that must use a lot of fuel" whilst I'm thinking I'd love to make it a >3.2

also had people ask me what car the engine originally came out of? some people cant believe that VW once made a 2.8l 6 cylinder golf which sounds like thunder, I think they assumed they were all 1.4s.
This actually used to belong to me and looked like this when I sold it: https://cliosport.net/attachments/dscn0345-jpg.400...
Do you still have it? Would love to know how it’s getting on...

Hello pal, I havent had this for a while, I swapped it for an e36 a good few years ago, I actually found the new owner on Instagram its gav_vw. Seems like a nice guy, he has a vw camper ??
Thanks for coming back to me, really appreciate it. Do you have any other pics to share? I miss the car so much - most regretful sale I’ve made. I like the mk3 but am also a VW man too - updated my thread just now too.
The mk3 is starting to get a little bit more love as it ages. It will never get to mk2 status of course (even those guys rip everyhting out to put in the mk2s...) but it isn't a bad car with the right suspension set up to control the relatively little added weight compared to modern day motors. Interestingly the front suspension setup and floor pan is identical to my Corrado VR6 and they were hailed as one of the best handing FWD cars of all time...
