Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo
Discussion
Haven't updated this for a while, because there really hasn't been anything to update. It's been completely faultless, doesn't use a drop of oil, just fill the fuel tank up every 550 to 600 miles and that's that. I still need to get the Alpine hi-fi upgrade sorted out but it's not a priority.
I did have a major wobble over the D3 and put it up for sale a few weeks ago. It was on the market for all of about four hours until I took it back off again
I'd convinced myself that it was dull and didn't offer me enough entertainment, when in fact it was driving that was the problem. I'd settled into a fuel economy/bimble along mindset and any car would have been dull doing that. Changing my driving style has dropped a whole 4mpg off the fuel consumption which is basically bugger all but has made the world of difference to the grin factor. Lesson learned.
It's in for a service and brake fluid change on Monday which is going to hurt as it has to be at BMW to keep the AUC warranty. Once that's out the way I'll get the winter tyres sorted out. Really looking forward to seeing how the car looks on silver wheels, almost certain I'm going to get the Dynamics refurbished in silver but this'll be the clincher.

Depends how it's driven, it'll do 50 mpg on a gentle run driven with fuel economy in mind. It settled at mid 40's when driven with a bit of spirit on my commute which is about 5 miles of urban/back roads and the rest is mostly dual carriageway so quite a few bursts of acceleration to get back up to speed after being slowed by traffic.
.... and it's sold.
I will miss this one, but it was just wasted on my commute. On the rare occasion I did get to drive it properly on a good road that Alpina magic really came through. I'm glad I got the opportunity to own one.
So this weekend one car becomes two - one is as middle-of-the-road as it gets, the other has a bit more fire in it's belly than when it left the factory
