My biology remembers head thorax and abdomen.

My guess would be the steering wheel

My BIL told me that you can buy a device that you plug in off ebay that does away with the light and allows the car to pass the MOT - other than him telling me this I know nothing else and do not know anything surrounding the legalities.

Might be worth an investigation?

It could just be a connector though. My first try would be to remove the battery and then try reseating the airbag connector - I've never done this though, other than disconnecting seats with airbags in them and swapping them over - messing around with airbag can be dangerous so all at your own risk etc. smile

Sounds interesting.

Only thing is the car has been in a crash at some point in its life, fairly recently I believe.
Got told its a cat c/d not sure which, never been bothered enough to find out.

The plastic fascia round the base of the drivers seat is smashed and half gone. Where about is the seats airbag?

As the others have said the thorax airbag is usually in the seat.. See if you can get a parts catalogue for your wagon to help you with this, you can usually find them online. When working on any part of the airbag systems leave it at least a minute after disconnecting the battery before messing with any connectors. These air bags go off with a hell of a bang if you get it wrong...

Might be worth checking the actual seat wiring connections, if they come apart it will throw up a fault.

Cat D won't say anything on the v5. Cat C will say something on the bottom of the front page. If it is a cat c is should have had a vic check. You should have a certificate to show its had it done. If it is a cat c and not had a vic check then you may well find that you will randomly get a letter from VOSA wanting to check the id of the car. No Biggy, last one I took was about £75 iirc.

Interesting car and thread.

Airbag light issue, do what the garage did for my mum, put some electrical tape over the light, still passed.

I believe it has to come on and then go off now, also I wouldn't dare dig into a dash of one of these.

Passed the mot with no advisorys and he said its one of the best he's seen turn up of similar vintage. Did look like a tt parked at college amongst all the small cars though haha

Developed and audio fault today. Driving along and the music just stops and the little light on the radio went off.

Sat nav/screen still work, just the radio won't light up. Going to check fuses and disconnect battery tonight to try sort it.

Possible it has water in the rear thought.

Just pulled terminal off battery, reattached and all working again. Strange beasts these.

Finally serviced it today, anyone know how to reset the service interval on the dash? Reading in negative miles for how long till service.

Hoping it may get 1-2 better mpg as air filter wasn't the best.

Hi Slow, I'm not sure what audio your car has but I think it's the same as my E39 525d. I had exactly the same issue as you and after much research tried pretty much all the Google fixes. I can't find a link right now as short of time but the one that cured mine was dry solder joints in the BM24 amp. If you have an evening to spare Google BM24 dry solder joints and follow the guides, I also found that the pins on this amp's plug were grotty and cutting out a few speakers too.

Very occasionally now, once every couple of months it will happen again, taking out and putting back the 30amp fuse to the radio cures it, everytime.....I think it must reset the amp but that could be a guess!!

According to the workshop manual:

5 The message centre will display the distance to service status as “RESET SIA: 3600km/mls” and the type of
service (OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION).
6 Check that the reset distance limit has been reached.
a If yes, proceed to step 9.
b If no, proceed to step 7.
7 Press the LH button once. The message centre will display the date to service status as “RESET SIA: 03.12”.
8 Check that the reset date limit has been reached.
