You could order them without a spoiler towards the end of the run IIRC, it looks much better without them I always thought
Indeed you could...I always preferred them with one though but appreciate it's each to their own, it's similar to the Lamborghini countach and lots liked them without the spoiler but I always thought they looked better with one. Stevenr said:
Been a good winter playing about with this old thing waiting to get it out again. It was apparent after running it for a few months that the power levels it was advertised at when I bought it were optimistic to say the least
The T3/34 hybrid half breed turbo that was on it when I bought it blew itself to pieces late last year on a wee test drive after we fitted a big intercooler back onto the car,it had been smokey for a while so a replacement was on the cards anyway. At that point the year was over so a few parts were bought for a bit more power this year.
A new T34 turbo, proper Airtec RS500 style intercooler and a custom chip from MSD have all been fitted over the last couple of months. It was booked in for a set up and power run on our local dyno up here on Saturday where it ran 336BHP at 18psi,very impressed with the figures at that boost levels.Don't want to push it much more at the moment as it's still on green injectors but a set of siemens are on the new shopping list
A new set of wheels were needed too,the MO6 Compomotives are a nice wheel but just something not right to me so swapped them for a set of MO5 Comps.
It passed it's MOT this month too with no advisories so very proud of the old tub at that, just a few wee bodywork issues to tend to this year and it should be about where I want it to be.
Not really got any decent photos of it as it's been snowing up here so just one from the rollers before it was tucked away again.
Nice work - should be good fun when the weather turns nicerThe T3/34 hybrid half breed turbo that was on it when I bought it blew itself to pieces late last year on a wee test drive after we fitted a big intercooler back onto the car,it had been smokey for a while so a replacement was on the cards anyway. At that point the year was over so a few parts were bought for a bit more power this year.

nice looking Sapphire. my mum and dad used to have a white one when they first came out, albeit not a Cosworth. was a 1.8LX.
looking back now, I should have bought one of these when I was into Fords. had an RS1600i that was national day winner 5 years on the trot. early 2000's they kind of looked very dated but looking at them now, don't seem dated at all. guess I'd never find one now at the prices they were at back then !
enjoy. standard wheels for me too

You could, but those are the earlier door mirrors, so either the spoiler has gone or the mirrors have been changed ( I know, I need to get out more).s m said:
The 2wd Sapphires are the rarest variant now I think ( excepting the RS500 )
Believed to be yes,all the better for me from a money point of view.But...I've always bought cars to enjoy and not to make money from but the way prices are going with these in even the not quite a year that i've owned this one I'll be thinking a bit more now before just jumping in and driving.
I plan to hold onto this for as long as possible though,i'll be at as many shows as I can this year too.

Are they? I had looked at buying a Sapphire a few years ago, and what I really wanted as a RWD model with a 4x4 bonnet on it. It seemed like the majority of cars for sale were RWD with a few 4x4's interspersed. I know at the time of the 4x4 coming on sale, the sales of the Sierra Cosworth had tailed off significantly since the Escort Cosworth was in the offing. I knew the 4x4 had continued to sell reasonably (IIRC there was a price cut too) but I would have thought the RWD models would have still been more common. Baryonyx said:

It's thought that a lot of 2wd cars were broken up to keep the 3dr model on the road too.
At one point they were worth more in bits too,i've kept all the original bits and pieces from mine as that's what most people look for these days.
It's never going to be original again though as it has a 200 engine block .

Got to say it looked fantastic when we passed a couple of weeks ago, even the missus commented!
Thank you, that was us out doing a bit of testing on the Drumossie runway, trying to get boost levels to somewhere reasonable before it went on the dyno.Didn't look to clever adjusting the actuator at the top of the hill near burning the fingers
I had a 2wd Saph, 4x4 Saph, black 3dr and 4x4 Saph in that order. All the Saph's were Moonstone. 3dr was my favourite car followed by the 2wd Saph. The 2wd Cossies were much nicer to drive than the 4x4's, much preferred the 2wd T5 gearbox. I spent thousands on my Cossies, they can be a money pit if you get the tuning bug and start chasing power figures. After I sold my last Cossie in 2005 I bought a M3 and since then stayed with BMW M power as they were a lot less hassle to own. I would still love another Cossie for shows etc as this time if I bought another it would be fairly standard.
Great looking Cossie you have, look after it and enjoy!
