V70 Shed - Man Maths
Discussion
Just had the insurance notice through (10 month ncb accumulator policy). Can't believe it's been almost a year already.
Used her for an airport run last week and took some ribbing on whether we would get there. Of course she performed without fault.
Total costs to date
Car £630
Insurance £240
Car wash £19
Battery isolator £8
2 x Bonnet catches £20
Battery charge £12
55w lamp £4
Monthly tax x 10 £200
What I've spent on it is quite small compared to the administrative side of things.
Repairs - £36
Maintenance - £27
Tax/Insurance - £440
Total - £1133
Well Insurance was looming so took her in for MOT early to see if it was worth renewing.
Kept my eye on the online site to see the results as quickly as possible, exciting stuff.
FAIL
But wait, looking down the long list its, lamp, lamp, lamp lamp, you get the picture.
6 new lamps and a quick beam adjustment and it's a pass. The indicator lamps were getting on a bit and though working the orange coating had worn away.
Well done to the old girl. She got a £20 of fuel and as a treat I've booked her in for an air con recharge next week. Hopefully she'll have a strong bladder.
Reinsured using the comparison websites. One much cheaper quote with Tesco at £208 FC (TPFT was 285)

Went out to a dead car yesterday. Nothing at all. Thought ahh, must have left the battery isolator on. Checked it, nope, electrics engaged an it was only used four days previous.
Got the multimeter on it, 1.2 . that'll be a knackered battery then. have charged it a few times over the previous few months but I guess the current cold spell we're having up North finished it off.
Local indie sold me a new one for £60.
Air con I tried last time never worked. Just leaked straight out. ATS refunded the £30 as they were unable to do it, great. The ham fisted treat ripped out the coolant sensor when lifting the resevoir, not so great. Didn't bother having it out with them, local specialist provided a new sensor for £13 so not too bad.

Quick update just so I can keep an eye on costs.
Did an oil change a few weeks back with a gallon of Opie's finest.
No major problems over the last few months. Hearing some noise from the NSF when at 40+ so thinking possibly a wheel bearing. Not sure what to do about that.
Just ticked over 159K and engine and gearbox peachy.
I am considering a change though and have been looking at XC70. Quite a lot of money though and often with many more miles on the clock.

Estimating sale price at £300. Reckon that's about £80 per month including ALL costs. Insurance and tax is £40 odd of that. Not bad.

Well, new owner just took my baby away. Always quite sad when I sell cars as I do form a bond with them.
£650 sat here which is great but if I had the space, I probably would have kept her.
Ahh well, slightly up on what I paid for her. Will do the calculations of running costs and post up later. Going to have a little drink and remenis the good times.

I've had it for 17 months so just on running cost that about £14 pm. Not bad.
Even if you add the tax and insurance it still works out around £56 pm.
Cheap motoring indeed

Just to wrap this up, here is the replacement. Above shed money at £1800 but as it's my main car now I thought I would splash out a little.
200BHP petrol but seems a litle slow with slushbox, would have prefered a manual as I would a 2003 updated car but they were double the money.
Drives well and only 114K on the clock. Won't be maintained on a shed budget but hopefully not too far off it.

I had one of these last year. 2001 Ocean Race 2.4T Manual. Probably the best car I've ever owned.200BHP petrol but seems a litle slow with slushbox, would have prefered a manual as I would a 2003 updated car but they were double the money.
