Lovely car, prefer it on steels as like the ordinal look smile
But it's a Ghia. It would've had some lovely wheel trims.
Good work OP.
I bought my first brand new car in 1987. A 1.1 Pop plus Fiesta.
Good point and well made smile

Thanks for all the comments. smile
I did see a set of steel wheels, trims and centre caps off an XR2, but they were up for sale for £500 without tyres! Although they were like new. I've always liked the pepperpots so when I found a set with good tyres and fairly close by I bought them while I could, although the steel wheels are still in the garage if I want to swap them back.

Matt

thumbup thanks for the positive comments, I'm sure an xr2 did feel quick at 5yrs old! smile
My dad told me a story of his best friend being involved in a fatal accident years ago when he had an xr2. He pulled out in front of another car at a crossroads which sadly killed the other driver, the drivers seat in the xr2 was pushed into the centre of the cabin but amazingly he survived with only minor injuries!

"Not many will be interested"....from the OP.

Whole lot more interesting than a lot of stuff on Readers cars and as already said a rare sight nowadays.

Keep it up.
Well said that man.

This is a corker of a car, full credit to you. Reminds me of my grandads mk1 950cc popular (brown vinyl seats and no rear seat belts). Makes me miss my first years if driving, where I had basic Mk2 golfs which were cheap and easy to fix! Goo times.

It's certainly an unusual first car these days and great to see one so well preserved whilst being enjoyed!!!!

I had a mk2 Fiesta in 2001 as my first car, paid £200 for a black 'Bonus' edition 1.0L .

I owned it for around a year and during that time it was gradually upgraded from a base 1.0L , to a GHIA, to a 1.4S replica and eventually a XR2 replica whilst having upwards of 20 sets of wheels!!

Really rather lovely. Good job!

My first car, back in 1987, was a blue 1984 1.1L.

Great car, amazed at the condition as my MK2's were rusty as hell in the 90's.

Bought my wife a 1.1 Firefly when she learnt to drive and aside from her struggling to get to grips with the manual choke it was a great little car.

Watching this thread with interest.

That's very cool. My first car was a W reg fiesta in terracotta. CRV 548W. Brings back some good memories.

As a massive classic Ford fan,i love it,a Aqua Jade 1.1 Ghia. thumbup

Every one saves the RS/XRs so the likes of these are rarer. Good work OP.

As a footnote is there mileage in having a "readers cars" and a "Classic readers cars" section? I know a lot of us only look at threads on the older stuff.idea

Problem is, what defines a classic?

Thanks for all the comments smile. It seems to bring back alot of memories then biggrin. My idea is to keep it standard as alot of them have been lowered, engines changed etc... so you rarely see a standard car unless its an xr2 and even standard xr2's are becoming rarer. It's good to be different!
Thanks Sc0tt, it'll be for sale when i see another retro/classic car that i can afford and like smile

Matt

Well a new month which means more money to spend save ! wink
What great weather to start the month, hopefully it continues into the weekend as i'm off to Castle Combe on saturday for their annual ford show. So a clean on friday evening and it'll be ready to go. smile
Some pics from the show on saturday to follow for now i'll put these couple up to make this thread a little less boring.

A couple of general maintenance jobs to get done this month as well:
-New front tyres
-Service
Other than that i'll just keep making small improvements where i can. smile

Matt
