Welcome to one of the most exclusive performance car clubs in the UK! Love your colour. Engine had a problem with one of the cylinders, the guy I took it to suggested fitting the already performance intercooled and downpiped Audi S3 engine he had coming in would offer a better solution than a rebuild. If anyone needs my old bits/ turbo do PM me

Did 18k miles in mine last year. Just 3 miles since lockdown and that was the drive home after the mot.

It's a good plan - I've started looking at performance options and when you add it up, an engine swap starts to make a bit of sense if you're looking for 300+ hp.

I would have done the same if pushed, as it stands mine seems ok so will probably start with the downpipe and HPFP

Spent a small fortune getting it right. Bought with a fully stamped book but still replaced all engine parts prone to failure listed in a previous post and replaced the turbo after a year as the actuator was rattling away. I’m probably £5k in with buying costs. Regularly serviced and I keep a check on the oil level every few thou miles but only topping about a litre and half between services. Was thinking of selling but it’s too good an allrounder.

There was a diesel in a local scrap yard so I’ve swapped over it’s better condition alloys and some trim. Changed the rear console trim to a standard one and rerouted the av cables so I can connect an ipod directly from the front. No front console adaptor as it has the nav package.

Quarterly trips with 600 miles a day fully loaded and it’s done them effortlessly. Much bigger inside than it looks , the brown trim is soon overlooked.
Economy won’t pass 32mpg but I knew that when I purchased.

Any chance yours was from near Woking. I looked at most available from July 18.

Mine was ex eBay, Jeremy was the last owner, Cheshire / Welsh border somewhere. Good idea to get the better bits off a breaker, I will see what it needs when it finally gets back. Will post dyno report....

Does anyone have an idea if there is an online vin decoder that lists options? Or is it a SEAT dealer only? Have searched, found Audi, Merc and Jaguar but nothing beyond very basic build details for mine

There is an online Seat resource called erWin.

I found it a bit of a ballache to be honest. I think I had to pay for 24 hour access and ended up downloading a load of training material before I realised (with about an hour left) where the stuff I really wanted was. Still managed to get the full spec though

I have a few VAG cars to check so might invest in an hours time, thank you

Any update on this? Noticed you mentioned the engine has an intercooler and downpipe - any idea which ones?

I'm going to take a better look at my exhaust at the weekend as I suspect it's started blowing somewhere. Been looking for a replacement, but there aren't many options - the price of exclusivity laugh

Cant believe in the 12-13 years I've been in the SEAT tuning circle that nobody has taken one of these, fitted the Cupra turbo etc and pushed it for Stage 2+ .

Then there's the TDI 170 which can push 300+ as well with the right turbo set up etc.

Thanks for the info and offer, but the leak isn't too bad. I'll see about getting it temporarily welded while I decide what's next - did a bit of googling and there's a few Russian modified models.

Looks like at one time a full stainless exhaust was available, but doesn't look like the mid/rear section is still sold. For information the downpipe is the same as an S3 (8P), the mid/rear section looks similar, but the rear section on the S3 is approx half the width.

Just spent 7 euros on 1 hour’s time getting the full specs and options on a neat pdf from erWin VW for 84 Scirocco GTi, R36 Passat and a couple of Golfs, well worth it. Easy registration as private person. Will do the Altea soon as it has to be on the SEAT. PM me with your VIN and e mail if you want yours done and you’re up for saving 7 euros...

Too rare and maybe too discrete??

Unfortunately the link to the car has disappeared but,

From the seatcupra forum:

REVOKEV:

My Freetrack runs:

B16 coilovers
Revo 4pot brake kit
Superpro Lower arms
Revo engine mounts
Revo K04 Turbo
Revo Stage3 software
Revo Downpipe
Revo Intake
Revo FMIC
Helix Clutch
2012 18" Cupra Wheels
And probably loads more I've forgotten about.
It's a cheap quick car, very amusing as no one knows what it is.

My Altea has a lovely engine. But it isn’t in it. In fact since I told Steff “no hurry” it appears that he’s been true to his word and it is in exactly the same condition as when I dropped it off in 2018...so have agreed to pick it up as Steff has someone keen on the tweaked KO4 S3 engine...so what to do...ideas / recommendations welcome, my excitement has waned. I suppose my black badgeless grill and 1.4 badge could go on eBay.,.

What condition is it in? Is it functional/roadworthy or does it need a new engine or turbo etc?

If there's nothing majorly wrong, I'd be tempted to spend a little money and just drive it for a while, hopefully it might bring back some of the motivation to continue - if it needs the work and you were prepared to get it done in the first place, I'd find someone else to do it.

Hello all, stumbled on this thread from a google search! Haven't been into the PH threads for ages it seems!

Lunar Grey TSI Freetrack owner here, from Northampton. Had her for about 3 years now. Spent a year mothballed following the common oil pump/low pressure failure the TSI/TFSI/TDIs get, due to the balance shaft oil pump till I fixed it. Old engine on inspection once removed was fairly sludgey inside and clearly had a poor service life, despite the 'regular' service history so it was replaced with an crash damaged Audi TT BWA unit which you could have eaten your dinner off it was so clean.

I've seen a yellow Freetrack about very local to me on and off over the last year or so, the wife thinks I'm nuts when I get excited about seeing another on the road.....
We holidayed near Polperro/Looe in August this year and saw a Grey TDI being driven by an older chap in Looe town centre.

The car I have started with the reg KY57 YKX, now on private plate, and seemed to be a Seat demo car and pictures of it feature on WhatCar's review when it came out, which tickled me somewhat.

Mine is modified now. Still only a K03, but with PCV delete, Bluefin/Fastchips map to 240bhp (197 stock), Standard Altea front springs and A4 quattro rears for the weight with some B4 Bilstein shocks. Fitted a short shift kit to reduce the changes. I did the pre-cat delete when the engine swap occured, still retains OEM cat and emissions at MOT times are on the dot where they should be, but she definately spools better for it.

Goes well and with some custom stickering (I was unfortunately an Art student in a past life till I got into electronics/engineering) get quite a few quizzical looks and interest as they are fairly unique and rare cars. The kids love the rear TV and the factory spec door blinds go down very well.

MPG as reported is fairly low, more so for me recently, but my fan set needs replacing (standard fault code covers it) so think its running 'cool' and rich, as the fan runs A LOT. Still 27.6 mpg average over the last few tanks, currently with less long runs and a lot of short journeys, right foot fun. Have seen 32 combined if you drive like a granny.

I'll see if I can add some pics. Mine sports a small PH smiley sticker NS rear smile

Apologies, brain failed me, it wasnt WhatCar.....it was Auto Express.

However looking at the article again, they refer to their test vehicle as a TDI, so maybe the image of mine was a stock image or something. Mine definitely needs an octane feed, not cetane!

If you search on google for 'Seat Freetrack tested' it is one of the first images.

Review is here: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-reviews/38173/se...

EDIT: closer inspection of the picture of the dash shows a rev counter going up to 8k RPM......that'll be a petrol then!
