So I bought this today. In my opinion one of the best drivers cars of all time, despite some known reliability issues...

So yeh, it certainly wasn't cheap, but I picked up my 1996 series 7 FD3S rx7 Type RS. Its not immaculate, but its fairly straight, with a recentish rebuild and nice that its standard. The insurance wasn't too ridiculous considering my age too.

Should compliment my e36 328 touring nicely. Will take a picture of them together sometime.

Awesome. I had one for two years. I only sold it to buy a sensible car while I lived abroad. I had visions of needing a rebuild in France and I knew the French wouldn't have a clue or rape me. The sensible reliable Audi A4 diesel I replaced it with let me down more in two months than the RX7 did over the whole ownership. Perfectly reliable and sensible car you've bought! Well done!

Any shots of the inside? The standard Mazda wheel is probably my favourite I've had in any car.

Make sure you do all the recommended stuff, stay on top of maintenance and it will keep on going.

If you are not a member already make sure you check out Mazda Rotary Club and FDUK, great guys and great info.

Nice buy! Looks great in the pic.

Amusingly, as a fellow FD owner I guessed your thread title was referring to the RX-7 biggrin I don't regret buying mine, despite the costs.

Edit - my '96, like yours, came with the '99 rear wing fitted. Unfortunately the aftermarket installation wasn't as watertight as Mazda's factory work, leading to water leaking in, collecting behind the rear wheelarches and rusting it from the inside out. If you get water pouring down from the rear hatch when you open the boot, be aware of this.

You say it 'wasn't cheap'; despite having risen a bit in the last three years, I still think FDs are good value compared to, say, Supras or GTRs, which are a quarter of a tonne heavier.

Last time out at Cadwell I carried a bit too much speed into the Gooseneck; braking while turning, the FD just slipped into a nice braking drift, right-rear tyre following front-left, staying on-line and under control while scrubbing off speed ready for the left-hander. The fundamental balance of the chassis, with the engine nestling low and back behind the front wheels, makes it really incisive to drive, yet forgiving of mistakes. So yeah, a really great drivers' car that's worth the cost to keep.
