Fantastic car, the mods suit it very well. Love the yellow callipers behind gloss black alloys.

I use to own one of these and have never enjoyed driving a car so much, specially with the roof down.
I was looking to de-restrict mine but I read somewhere that whilst the car will hit 200 mph the weight of the car and the downwards pressure would explode the tyres !!!
The paint looks nice and 'wet' what wax are you using?

Wow, looks stunning. My Dad currently has an E93 M3 on lease but that goes back this year. He is thinking of an F-type or another 911 to replace but I think one of these would suit him down to the ground.

Need a vid to hear this thing running...

Having seen this car up close Icanconfirm it's a absolute beauty.

Really well looked after and with a lot of care gone into the mods.

Just a reminder for interior pics and a video wink

Just missed out on one of these this weekend so my search continues. Seems to be a huge variation in quality of the cars on sale at the moment. I'm concerned about some high mileage ones (90k+) but not sure if I should be!

Bought one smile

Thanks for your advice OP, I ended up with an 04 but not the facelift unfortunately, looks like I'll be investing in a tomtom as the Etch-a-Sketch sat nav seems very poor. Anyway.....I didn't buy it for the sat nav wink

Moving on to the Porsche fold so when I'm back in the country in the next few weeks this will be up for sale in the PH classifieds. It's been a great car, but sadly while most AMG owners are great the rest of the Mercedes marque seems to attract people I have no desire to be associated with!
None taken !

Future classic, they have aged so well.

If I was in the UK I would certainly consider one ...

What a deep shine. Nice motor. Do you get professionals to detail it or what products are used for that glossy shine?

Do you use a rotary car polisher or do it all by hand?

Thanks,, I use Dodo Juice products - and a lot of time and effort! According to one joker on MBClub it's a polished turd ... that forum seems to attract idiots for some reason and then promotes some of them to moderators ... go figure!

Other than the smaller pulley no, but yours is a 63 or is that a conversion? Have to say the front end of the R230 is much nicer IMO than the R231 although I don't doubt the R231 is a better drive!

I studied industrial design and it amazes me how wrong Mercedes seem to get it from a design aesthetic point of view with most of their vehicles whereas Jaguar design wise invariably get it right! The R230 is a rare example of Mercedes getting it pretty much spot on!
It's an SL55 with the 63 conversion carried out, it's still an R230 but with the mid life facelift they introduced when they replaced the 55 with the 63. The 231 looks horrible imo they got it very wrong as the did with the SLK to.

Did you have it dyno'd? The heat exchanger is a god send as is the Evans waterless coolant I use both are great at keeping the temps in check.
