Hi Y'all
I'm taking delivery of this one family owned 1995 e36 Touring SE on Saturday. She's done 134,000 miles, with a new engine fitted at 50,000 miles presumably after a Nikasil disaster (I'll know more once I read the history file). She's a manual with grey cloth interior.
She's owned by a mate of mine who is buying a 2000 523i Touring whale from his sister for £300, so he's 'selling' the 328 to me for FREE!
Here are some pics:

As you'll see, she has rust in the usual places and I hope not too much elsewhere.
Carpetsoiler has sold me his M50 manifold already and I'm hopefully off down to his soon to get it put in, I'm also on the lookout for the right 16inch alloys to 'sex' her up a little and in time a leather interior.
Other than that and she'll probably stay original and will definitely be my daily.
More soon - straight six fun ahead!

Picked her up at lunch today and then spent the next couple of hours cleaning as much crap off her as possible - I don't think she's ever had a wash!
Anyway, she came up nice:

Few things that need attending too - the digital clock etc seems not to work, the gear knob has seen better days, and i think I need a new boot ... Also, one of the alloys is in pretty bad condition.

However, the build quality is great; it is so quiet inside, no squeaks or groans. And I must say, she's pretty fast! But the handling is shocking! Lots of fun - would make a great drift mobile - I'll spend the next few days getting to know her, but very impressed so far.

Spent a happy Sunday afternoon at Sam's (carpersoiler) 'helping' him fit the M50 manifold:

And letting him prod around the car before declaring that 'it wasn't a lemon', phew!
Great before and after shot side by side with his frankly awesome car 'Claudia':

Here's the size difference between the std manifold and the M50:

The journey home was amazing - so much urge at the top of the range and she pulls and pulls all the way to 6,250 rpm wheraes before she felt rather asthmatic - thanks so much for Sam for his time and know-how and for a brief but brilliant pax ride in his amazing car!

Buoyed by Sam's ease around his e36, I've set about trying to try my hand at a bit myself - for the first time I've taken to the wrenches rather than pay someone else to do it.
Task one - a stone has bulleted a hole through the offside headlamp, so I purchased a £20 replacement from eBay and set about fixing it. Sadly the eBay unit came without bulbs and a few other crucial bits ... It did however have a lovely undamaged piece of glass; so replacement became dismantle. Thank the lord these cars are so easy to work on!
4 bolts, remove the indicator and hey presto - she's out!

Spotted a bit of surface rust under the air box, which luckily sanded off nicely

In the absence of Carpetsoiler, I have my own carpet soiler ...

If there's ever a car that will turn you from a wide-eyed bimbling idiot dropping spanners into a seasoned hardcore mechanic who eats used 10w40 and bathes in Swarfega, an E36 is pretty much it. Glad you're getting stuck in. Now the bug has bitten... biggrin

You are to blame Sam! I'm tackling the serpentine belt today! Did you say a 32 spanner on the viscous fan bolt - I presume a big clout anti-clockwise will do it?

A bit late, but yes, that would be correct! If it doesn't come after one absolutely massive bash with the hammer, soak it in WD40/GT85/two other letters and two other numbers before attempting it again. They do come that way. You can lock them but that's for pansies.
