Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V
Discussion
Here's my latest car, 1998 Evo V.
Fresh import, 142k kms (with full service history from the one japanese owner, fresh clutch, timing belt, water pump, fluids and underseal on arrival. Car has had some subtle mods, coilovers, wheels, cat back exhaust, upper and lower strut braces and well as some fettling under the bonnet (need to go to a specialist to find out exactly what though - appears to be nothing major as standard air box & cat is still there).
Car was supplied by Max @ Hurst Cars, who I can't recommend higher. There's a lot of sharks with imports and Max is definitely one of the good guys.
I'll let the pics do the talking:
Cosying up with his Saab Shed buddy...

Bought unseen and was the first time I've taken the train to collect a car, the drive back from Bedford was pretty grim in the rain though.
Car is seriously clean underneath, mechanical rock solid, so plan is not to mess with it too much and enjoy a (hopefully appreciating) classic. Needs a little more power and the interior could do with some tidying.

You should have seen the S201. First time I've seen one in the flesh and it was amazing. Zoobeef said:
The one that came out of this was the original clutch, that was in better condition than that DasChin said:
keep it standard and looking oem. too many abused ones out there now
they look great on the road still in oem spec. I saw a bright red makkinen last week and it looked brilliant.
Thats the aim. Anything I do I'd like to be bolt on so I can quickly put it bacj to standard. they look great on the road still in oem spec. I saw a bright red makkinen last week and it looked brilliant.
Used it to drive to work today, its a but heavy going in traffic!
That looks great OP, very clean & tidy. Such a great looking car imo.
Was thinking the other day that I really miss driving my old Blobeye Impreza (but I don't miss the interior), so maybe I should try an Evo one day. A Tommi Makinen edition would be lovely
Have the older Evo's prices started to firm up yet??

Evo 6 TMEs are well in excess of £15k for a good one now. E1-3 seem to have avoided the classic bubble and 4s are still pretty cheap (by comparison). I'm hedging my bets on this being the car Mitsi started their proper WRC onslaught. I don't expect it to double in price but I'm hoping it at least holds it value while clean ones are harder to come by. Took it out to it's first meet last night as the weather was so nice.
Correct sized number plates and mph clocks ordered. Over the weekend I'll be having a go at taking off the window diffusers and drilling the airbox for a bit more sound - I've been advised against going for an open cone as the standard airbox is supposed to be fine up to 400ish bhp

Plan is to smarten it up a bit (re-paint calipers, have bits of interior re-trimmed/repaired) and get power to around 350-360bhp, then just drive the wheels off it.
Not sure long term, I'm going through a 'bucket list' of cars at the moment, so only keeping things a short time. This last year alone I've had my first Golf GTI, Impreza and my first sub-£1000 shed (and now Evo). I really, really want an R33 GTR at some point before they get out of my budget.

Thats true for the 8's for sure but dont think so for the 5 and 6 but if you aren't going for a boost increase and remap the stock box is fine Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
