Long time since an update! It's been tucked away for winter so first thing was to go to TRL in Halifax for a service and fluid change, changing to 10w50 and 5.1 brake fluid after boiling the old fluid at phss Silverstone.

TRL confirmed the car is in great mechanical nick, there are a few suspension components showing wear and a split cv boot, but nothing too frightening given the sort of bills these cars can chuck up. AYC / drivetrain had a good check over.

Been to a few PHSS already, including Bruntingthorpe and Santa Pod.

More importantly I've changed the bloody awful wheels!

A set of factory Enkei from an Evo 7RS. Bit of a gamble as I couldn't find any pics of them fitted to a V. Delighted with how they've turned out.

Not sure what next. Paint needs attention but I'm also a massive fan of patina, so might just have it clayed and polished and see how it comes out.

Hi Rob, I did see your car at pod but I think you'd gone by the time I got my camera out. Car looked really clean, don't see many standard ones around, especially in silver.

Came back to my car to find it between two Evo X as well, bit of a rarity for a PHSS to see so many!

Hi Karl - thank you ! Yes I am really pleased with it, Max had the AYC Pump replaced for me. I also got it undersealed to protect it. I have always loved the V and VI Evo's and finally managed to purchase it back in December. I am taking it around Europe, France, Monaco, North Italy, Geneva, Switzerland, Germany, and Amsterdam in late May / June for two weeks planning to do 3000 miles in it and I can't wait...!!!

I understand it is original and this was the main reason I purchased it. It does have a double plate clutch which is noisy and takes some getting used to when you engage the clutch it grinds and makes a hell of a noise !

Planning to go to the Morgan Meet on Sunday so may see you there if you are going..

Sounds epic, you'll be seeing a lot of fuel stations!

I plan to be at Morgan, just not sure in which car yet. The Evo needs a refresh underneath (wheel bearing, cv boot and a tie rod end) so I'm a little nervous going for long journeys until its been looked at!

Pressing on with small bits of tittivation ready for Japfest on Sunday.

Grills had no paint left on them, so a few coats of UHT went on. Matt finish sort of ties in with rest of car, if I can find some UHT laquer I might go over it again.

Spotted out and about with fellow PHer Pilchard8

Browsing the MLR classifieds the other day and I thought 'that looks familiar'!!

Hankering for a V or VI myself at the moment......or maybe a VII - IX - there is something very right about the older shape Evo's though. There is a nice looking IV rolling around in my area at the moment. Just not sure about moving on from my 944T yet.......so would mean raising some funds!!

So what's next on your bucket list??

I've speculatively listed it at the moment, if it sells it speeds up the timeline for my next purchase but hanging onto it for longer is no great hardship!

The two I have my eye on are an R33 GTR or a Mazda RX7, leaning towards the Mazda first, then the GTR after that. Should have crossed most of my Gran Turismo bucket list then (maybe another Impreza (a classic this time)).

Haha!!

How have you found the Evo? A good experience? Anything you don't like?

I went through a few 90's jap cars when I was younger, and there are quite a few I still fancy, but sometimes wonder if it would be a case of rose tinted glasses. I do keep finding myself in the MLR for sale section though!!

I had a blobeye Impreza WRX wagon a few years ago, mapped & upgraded exhaust, absolutely loved it - but using it as our practical car, on long journeys I started to want for something a bit nicer inside.

Your V is a cracker, and if I was looking to buy right now, I'd certainly be taking a look. Good luck smile

It's been by far my favourite car. Doesn't have the same charm as my impreza (the buzzy 4 pot is not my favourite sound) but it is a much more capable car.

Basically this. Plus people in my age bracket (33) now have the disposable income to buy/run these cars they didn't have when they were new. Decreasing supply and increasing demand = basic economics.

I have my eye on an RX7 next, but will probably make a bigger effort to move the Evo on when it comes off the road for winter.

So, given the recent thread bump I thought I may as well add some more pictures

With all badges / stickers removed:

A few from various shows over the last few weeks. Its had fresh paint on front/rear bumpers as well as a full machine polish. Suspension refresh and interior to sort now!

Changing my mind about selling it now. boxedin

looking lovely mate smile

owning the Asti is making me want a 4/5/6 rather a lot, but it wouldn't be the most practical daily.

After posting in this thread I had a call from a nice man from Burnley, jumped in the car, drove over to Sheffield in the pouring rain and paid full asking.

That was a quick sale!!

Nice to see a pic of the V and VI next to each other.

Other than bumpers/spoiler (and excluding the TME), are there any mechanical differences between V & VI?

Time to start looking for an FD then OP!!

Very, very minor mechanical differences, to the point that parts are completely interchangeable.
