So, I finally gave into the voices in my head and ordered the following items:

- Peugeot OEM front brake discs 247mm vented
- Mintex M1144 front brake pads
- Replacement front suspension top mount kit inc. bearing & nuts
- Bilstein group N tarmac front/rear dampers
- 165lb Faulkner springs
- BMC air filter element
- Peugeot Sport group N exhaust system

I just need them to hurry up and get here now!

Thomas
Not too shabby!

Think about rotating the top mounts while you're at it. For that extra caster.
A 24mm rear ARB from an S2 Rallye/GTI would be a nice upgrade as well.

Enjoy it.

Cheers Avia,

I just google rotating the top mounts to increase castor; interesting!

Have you experienced this first hand?

Thomas

Yes, did it on mine.

It adds about 1 degree of positive caster which makes the steering heavier and more direct.

Increasing the positive caster also increases the dynamic negative camber = better traction at the front tyres.

Thanks.

It sounds like a relatively simple job, so will certainly look at this.

Do you have a thread up for your car?

I should have the new brakes, suspension and exhaust fitted to the car before the weekend.

In the meantime, the lure of new components remains strong and I managed to pick up a steering wheel over the weekend:

It's a 350mm Sparco steering wheel and benefits from a new alcantara re-trim by the guys at Royal Steering Wheels. I just need to get a boss now.

The suspension, brakes and exhaust are all fitted and I've just returned from a two hour "shakedown".

I LOVE IT!

I was expecting the dampers to be a bit too hardcore for the road, but they are simply awesome.

Great thread!

Nice to see so much love for a smaller displacement French hatch.

Had a 205 xs back in the day. Good times!

Great stuff Tom - your roads must be smoother than the ones around here!

I too have just returned from my summer Sunday mor ing hoon across the Devon countryside.
I run B8s & 155lb springs after finding the exact same setup you have a bit harsh in certain circumstances around here, although at times it is a bit soft on the front now which is a compromise I have to live with.

Nice wheel - smaller wheels deffo adds to the experience.

What you need is a diff! - it will be a Revelation!

Thoughts on the Quaife ATB LSD?

ACE - The best value for money mod you can do, without a doubt.

I have 2 gearboxes both with diffs - 1xS1 Rallye and 1x1.4 Xsi, In both boxes I have a quaife. The quaife is a great road diff which once fitted you need some time to adjust your driving a bit as you can really slingshot yourself out of corners at speeds which previously you would’ve under steered off in a cloud of smoke - In a nut shell you can get your foot down much harder and much earlier than previously and it also transforms wet weather driving.

It can snatch a bit in a straight line under hard acceleration/shifting which can feel a bit like a mixed up torque steer and tram lining depending on the surface, not so bad on track - but as mentioned the roads I drive on are mostly terrible and I’m pushing 160bhp - a satchshift closes the gap between wheel and gearstick considerably.

I know you were thinking of bodies and I’m a fan of these too, But a diff is a much better pound for pound mod in my eyes even on a standard car especially with the S1 ratios - it’s a no brainer.

Well one Thomas - great progress!

I'm a big fan of the Quaife ATB and will get one at some point for the XSi.

My car has stalled (not literally) due to work, working away etc. Need to get back to it!

Thanks all.

I had already considered an LSD, but didn't think it would be worth it on a 1.3 8V.

Your comments have me interested again though shedweller!

In terms of fitting the LSD, do you know if you need to hack at the gearbox? I had read something about crown wheels coming out etc.

The Rallye has been SORN for a short while, but dropped her off for an MOT, service and a few small jobs this weekend.

I have loved Rallye ownership, but think I am about to say goodbye to the Rallye. Planning to replace it with a phase two Clio V6 for what remains of the British summer.

Hi Bennno,

It is probably a few weeks away from being ready to sell; if you drop me a PM with your email, then I can share some details with you before I start to advertise it more formally.

Looks like a nice example there.
