Come over and say hello - I'll likely have a black Labrador in tow smile

You will be pleased to hear it's just be driven back from the detailer in the pouring rain!

Looks fantastic - Massive thanks to Ed @ Divine who has done an amazing job!

Need to touch in a couple of paint chips at some point but it looks spectacular!

Ignore the "wasting it" comments, fair play for keeping it in great condition and enjoying it as you please, after all it is YOUR car.

Still remember when I first saw the Phase 1 on show when released, as you say totally off the wall for a mainstream manufacture at the time to put into production. Here's a pic of the photo I took way back when.

Look forward to having a nose around it on Sunday thumbup

Thanks guys - it really is an awesome car, such presence!

Was that photo taken at the London Motorshow?

I was there with my dad and he always said he'd love one so it's nice that 15-ish years later I got one!

When I worked at Lotus Motorsport in '99, they had some prototypes in the special/ secret project area... Where they propped the door open and you could wander in as you liked biggrin

It's running beautifully at the moment and looks great after Ed's work but will probably be covered in crap again by the time it gets to Goodwood tomorrow!

Just a couple of small jobs to do; delicately touch in a couple of stone chips as the car is now so clean they draw the eye and the silver trim with the window switches etc in the doors have gone a bit 'purple' at the edges where the alcantara has bled a bit, likely from opening the door in the rain. Assume they're a 172 part so easily replaceable or repainted smile

Otherwise - perfect smile

OP you're definitely not wasting it in my opinion. By your own words you enjoy just looking at, and owning one of the coolest hot hatches ever made....not sure what defines 'wasting it' but that certainly doesn't seem to fit with how you type about it.

Awesome car!

It's cool - Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I am sure others would use it differently smile

I genuinely don't think I could love it more. There's something so 'right' about the Phase 1 V6.

I really think it would still look current/ new if it was the first time you saw one.

Tempted to run it down the local Shell and blow off the dirt from yesterday smile

Need to fill up the 545i though as well... The fun never ends in car land!

I remember it well smile Coolest car I had ever seen... Used to love seeing a Renault 5 Turbo, locally, many years ago as well.

Just blew it off down the local Shell garage and got talking to a chap in a F458 who seemed to appreciate it, which was nice!

Leaving at 6:30am for Goodwood - Any forum members attending feel free to say hello - I'm the bearded one with the black lab, probably stuffing my face with bacon biggrin

I don't think I could drive it, values are only going one way with these, and every time you take it out, you risk some knobhead crashing into you and ruining everything.
I see your point entirely, but as long as it's insured for its current value or cost to replace then what's the issue?

Only thing that would make me think twice about how it was used is if the car has some sort of sentimental value.

Or the fact that any panel damage would be a real chew as new, original parts are impossible to get and it would never be the same again...

As it happens, just got back from Goodwood and caught my splitter on something and need some new plastic, screw in trim clip things frown

I know that it is a car, but just imagine if it rose as much as the 'rarri 250...

Google Wiki Ferrari 250 GTO for all the details.

Sold for:
1962–4 (new): $18,500

1969: $2,500

2012: $38,115,000

That is quite an investment to ruin.

(and before you tell me that Renaults will not increase in value to that degree, I acknowledge that, but look at the old 5 Gordini turbo).

If you want to use one I'd be selling up and getting one with 70k on the clock and enough spare change to run it for 5 to 10 years!

Interesting car. Dont see the appeal outside the limited numbers myself but there would be some people out there with big money for a proper low mileage car. Given that to actually get out and drive there are many many better cars out there I'd take the money and run before its done a winter on the road. It was a good find but capitalise and get the hell out!

It's not all about the investment; it's about the irreplaceability (it simply isn't replaceable and maybe not fixable in many cases) and the fact that it is sentimental to me. It's literally my favourite car ever and I'll be happy to keep it forever, as long as a sale isn't forced (I'm in the rocky O&G business).

Anyway; it did more miles through the week than my BMW and Peugeot. Having a full time job etc; it just gets used sparingly!

It'll even be out over winter, though probably only locally and as long as the roads aren't salted.

My buddy Duncan is selling his at the moment:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222298578353?_trksid=p20...

That's a stunner, it really is. Very active member of V6clio.net and that's the car I had a look round before deciding to buy mine (he wasn't selling it, he just wanted to show me round a car and what to look for etc as he's a top lad).

If you want a low mile, interesting colour, great condition Phase 1 then that would be a lovely car to buy.

I've considered a higher mileage one (even Duncan's, I've linked to) actually...

But I love mine and I am not in it for the profit so I am not looking to capitalise (at the moment, still being employed etc) and it has already done one winter on the road so I am not too worried smile

The appeal is sometimes difficult to quantify and qualify; it's just very cool and there is something very 'right' about them in the flesh. A lot of presence and proportions that, although exaggerated, just seem to 'work' and really make it stand out compared to, well, pretty much any other hot hatch ever made IMHO.

Nice to say hello to a fellow PHer!

The detailing was slightly wasted after I blew it over and didn't wipe it down, covering it in water spots but it still looked nice!

was a really good day and interesting to see the Phase 1 track cars and Phase 2 road cars.

Nice one.

Now, see if you can find me a 205 T16 with less than 1000 miles on the clock smile

Really cold! I'll be looking forward to a summer one!

I have logins to a lot of forums (including that one) but I am not really active. I only really post here though I often lurk on v6clio.net, SELOC, 205gtidrivers and the 106 forums. Mrs9 thinks I am obsessed with car stuff on the internet as it is. Still, she's probably happier than if it was youporn!

Thank you - The madness of the project is what makes it! Why do it? It wasn't a race car after all and the hatches were selling well enough without the need for more PR. They just did it because they could (I assume) and I love that.

I'd give my right nut for a T16 - Lovely things! I can remember when ex-racers weren't that much money (compared to current prices), in my 205 days. To be honest, I'd be happy with a minty fresh 205 GTi in Steel Grey!

Went to see one (205 Steelie, 1.6) a couple of years ago in Epsom (where I was living at the time) that was something like 30k miles... was a Cat D but repaired well and presented immaculately. I ummed and erred about it as £7k (I think) was a lot for a damage-repaired car, even in the condition it was in, with the green interior etc. A week later I think they started asking £13k for it. Not sure what happened to that car...
