Was this a private sale? Who did you use to inspect the car and get it on the boat for you?

Everyone should have a pickup/ute at some point! They are just so useful, providing the load space is half decent which it should be on an El Camino.

As for the colour, you can't go wrong with black but I think red or blue would look great too.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. From my perspective, the best looking one on here is the matt red with the NASCAR wheels, not normally a fan of slamming something on the ground, but that looks mean.

I love these trucks and would defiantly have one in my dream garage.

This popped up on my eBay today, not sure if it is something you would be interested in but made me think of this thread!

Thanks guys, some quality links there. Seems to be a bit of love for an old pickup on PH smile

NYK Romulus as snapped by a ship-spotter at Staten Island at the weekend..

To answer a couple of questions and comments:-

I am simply purchasing from Rock and Roll Motors based in Grangemouth, so it is their contact in the US who viewed the vehicle and did the deal over there, and they have arranged shipping and will sort the duty etc.

All of my contact with them has been extremely positive. Jim is a bit of a character and a pleasure to deal with, which is more than I can say for an other importer I have used previously.

In terms of price, obviously these guys are in the business to make a crust and I'm sure I could do it cheaper myself IF (and it is a big IF) I had the time, knowledge and contacts to do so.

That said, having looked at prices being asked (though not necessarily paid) for similar vehicles for sale here, I feel that I can buy the Elk for the price being asked, pay for a professional repaint at some point and still be ahead of the game!! smile

Yes, this one

is possibly my favourite look so far too. Good chance mine may look similar, at least for a little while....

Thanks for the link to the tonneau cover, although the body style changed in '67 so that particular one wouldn't fit, but I do appreciate the thought.

A tonneau will probably be on the "to do" list at some point. Would probably go for a soft rather than rigid one as they are more practical.

Progress update - not far from Nova Scotia now!

Mini update - very nearly at Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I have to say, having been browsing images of all the places the ship has been, Nova Scotia has surprised me the most - through pure ignorance I thought it was probably a bit of a grim place!

Could really have been more wrong...

That's a nice road! Somewhere else added to my "must visit" bucket list!!!

Big milestone today. After what seems like weeks of touring the Americas the ship has finally departed Halifax, destination Southampton UK!! biggrin

Although that isn't the unloading point for my container, at least it is heading in the right direction now, so it feels like progress!

The ship will shortly drop out of range of the tracking system for a few days now...

I've always had a soft spot for the El Camino, I'd really like an SSsmile and this thread must be one of the best about following the delivery smile
I imported a car from Japan in 2003 but back then I doubt I could have got the same detail as you have achieved, top work smile

Cheers! beer

Tracking technology is getting pretty good these days, whether that is brilliant or terrifying is a matter of perspective I guess!!

Pearl red, lower it a bit and get some retro styled polished wheels.

I imported a Honda NSX from Japan last year and used Shipfinder to track the progress from Tokyo across the East China Sea, the South China Sea to Singapore where the container changed vessels, then the Java Sea, the straight between Australia and PNG to Brisbane, then across the Tasman to NZ. I have never been more interested in maritime weather in my life! All received safe and sound, after 6 weeks on the oceans.

Enjoy!

It's been a loooong few days but the ship is finally in more familiar waters!!

Going to be a couple more weeks yet as the container comes off in Europe before a final transfer to Grangemouth, but I am definitely starting to get excited now!! smile

Great thread. Would love an Elk. There was an '80's Choo Choo customs one for sale on eBay a couple of years ago I was seriously tempted by.

I tracked the ship my Mustang came over on. It all adds to the excitement.

Thanks chaps, finding it slightly strange that anyone other than me would be remotely interested where in the world some random ship is!! wink

Anyway, Southampton has been and gone and NYK Romulus is making steady progress up the Channel. Compared to the places it has been on this voyage that sure is one busy waterway!

"My" container will either come off in Antwerp or Rotterdam, although somewhat bizarrely, if it comes of in Antwerp it then goes on a train to Rotterdam anyway!! nuts

Should be in Grangemouth a few days after that, a wait for customs clearance and then it will finally reach Rock and Roll Motors!! bounce

Any reason why it couldn't of come off at Southampton?
