Audi S5...my first V8
Discussion
So after driving M3s and Evos for the past few years I thought it was time to grow up a bit and buy something a bit more sensible. Always lusted after a V8. Originally I was looking at B7 RS4s but decided that with the amount of motorway miles I'll be doing next year that they would get a bit tiring. Spotted this for sale, reasonable price, decent spec (manual, B & O, bluetooth) and liked the colour. It does (I think) look quite classy.
A very different drive to the M3. It's not the last word in handling finesse but by god can it cover ground quickly. The engine is an absolute peach, it gathers pace with quite frightening serenity. The noise of that V8 is marvellous, if a tad muted from inside the cabin.
I like it....a lot. Took it on a drive from my house to the North coast yesterday along some amazing roads and loved every second of it. Averaged 15mpg and saw 3mpg on the display at one point. Thats on very twisty roads with lots and lots of hard acceleration though. Almost hit 30mpg on the motorway back from collecting it.......however, you don't buy a V8 to watch the MPG and have now switched the display off.

Nice car, despite what the Audi haters on here may say, I think these A/S5's are very good looking things.
+1 to the exhaust comment too, one flew past me on the A64 a few weeks back sporting a Milltek exhaust (unless the sticker was lying) and it sounded glorious with the window down!

Out of curiosity, do you have any sort of extended warranty on it? I would imagine repairs will cost a pretty penny.
Got a rather good 6 month warranty with the car. I've had issues with these 'free' warranties before so went through this one with a fine tooth comb and it's actually very comprehensive, it can (and will) be extended. After running an 11 year old M3 for the past 2.5 years and 40,000 miles I'm used to the odd massive bill.

So the day after I get my milltek fitted and car remapped, out for a drive on a wee country lane. Meet anther car and pull well over to the right and stop for him to get past.....the muppet misjudges, turns back in too early and catches my back arch with his bumper. Has wrecked my arch and rear bumper.
Despite the fact that I ws stationary at the time of the incident and he drove into me, when we got out he was insisting it was my fault?!?!? He had a spare 1.5 metres of room but simply misjudged it. Could not believe that he was not admitting responsibility.
Unfortunately for him, the car which was behind him had a dash cam and caught the whole thing....clearly showing me being completely stationary, the spare amount of room that he had and his ridiculously poor judgement. I will be investing in a good dash cam now.
Absolutely raging, the guy was driving a stty old mazda and has wrecked my pride and joy. Could not believe that he was still saying it was my fault, when he accepted that I was stationary, he then said that he skidded into me. The dash cam clearly shows him braking, then coming off the brakes and coming around my car and just turning in too early. fking ahole.

On the up side. I had a non-resonated Milltek cat-back fitted the day before and had the car re-mapped by MRC in Banbury. The V8 now sounds absolutely amazing......not mega loud but a beautiful rumble. The car is a lot nippier now too thanks to the re-map, particularly lower down in the revs. These 2 upgrades have made the car sooooooo much better than standard. I am ridiculously happy with the car now. Just a shame that muppet-man had to wreck it by driving into me. Still, the car will get fixed and all will be ok.
