Used to have a copy of the rather good "Shut It. The guide to 70s TV cops", a guide to actors used, cars driven, booze drunk and anything else they could think of, for every episode of Sweeney and The Professionals.
Still on Amazon.
I still have my copy, and use it to refer to the episodes when Ray Doyle cooks a bit of pasta, the one where he knobs Patricia Hodge, and to the Bill the Driver moments in the Sweeney.Still on Amazon.
For Triumph's alternative reality destiny to become more BMW than BMW, see:-
http://www.automobilemag.com/news/triumph-dolomite...
In our reality, Triumph is a brand fated to kept in a locked drawer forever .... by BMW.
Many (not all) BL cars featured great design and good engineering (plus bodges and corner cutting), but thanks to a cocktail of management incompetence, under investment, government mishandling, union stubbornness, and so on, the cars sometimes fell to bits, and eventually so did the whole project.

Here is a properly seventies coloured series 1 V8 manual, fairly priced at £3500 -

I am ashamed to admit that I have never driven a Triumph 2500 in any flavour, and the only P6 I have driven was a pleasant but underpowered 2000 SC. An SD1 feels distinctly modernish compared to other 70s/early 80s cars, and I would expect it to feel at least half a generation ahead of a big Triumph saloon. The engine in my SD1 is, of course, a Triumph engine. If that straight six had been developed, with fuel injection and a 24 valve head, it could have been quite something
I am firmly of the opinion that in line with the Dolly Sprint being a proto-Brit 3-series the 2500 TC and PI were the proto-Brit 5-seres, but this is based purely on distant memories from the 70s. I would like to experience the big old Triumph some time.
The Triumph estate was what my dad would have had in the early 70s if he'd been able to afford it and it does have a lot of aesthetic similarity to the E34 and E39 Touring.
Here's a nice one, not for sale but I just liked the pic, it's on the Triump 200 register website

My first car - as a student - was a 2500 Mk2 saloon, in French Blue with black vinyl. It was followed by three 2500 PIs: lovely things and unbeatable throttle response on injection, but a bit light on engineering compared to the P6. The low dash makes for a bit more of a 60s feel, but a PI estate would be something to look out for.The Triumph estate was what my dad would have had in the early 70s if he'd been able to afford it and it does have a lot of aesthetic similarity to the E34 and E39 Touring.

I remember my dad selling his immaculate SD1 in the mid-90s for £75 at an auction. I cannot believe the cost they reach nowadays.
Beautiful cars chaps! I loved learning to drive in my dad's Vitesse in the late 80s! Even managed to borrow it a fair few times when I was away at college.

There are interior shots of the Rover on the first few pages of this thread. For interior shots of the Granada, see -Any interior shots ?

Here's a Series 2 V8 in Mooonraker Blue with a good blue interior, only £3500 (that's a pound per cubic centimetre of engine). Looks pretty alright.
