Bought a car after selling my 2005 201 bhp seat ibiza due to new job and 350 mile per week, nearly 250 quid in fuel a month.

so bought a 2061.4 hdi off ebay, unseen, car no. 45 i think in 16 years.

it cost £470 with 30 quid road tax, came with 12 mot and cambelt 1 week ago.

Bad stuff

So car stinks of fags, no parcel shelf, no service history and a brake squeal, tyres cheap but newish, steering wheel is horribly worn rubber.

so far first plan is change steering wheel, front brake change, de-fag car(steam clean and odour fog), oil change, filter and cabin change.

then tyres/alloys, parcel shelf, replace wing, then remap to 90 bhp.

Even thou slower than a oil tanker, it is doing esr 75mpg but more accurate once my 51 pounds of diesel is used.

Spent 150 quid on top with new parts and karcher steamer to clean interior.

Very cheap motoring. Are they any good though? I had a GTI once (not the 180). It was orange and everything rattled - a lot. Is the little diesel unit reliable? Would I be right in assuming that there's no DPF and suchlike to be concerned about? Isn't it something like 70bhp standard? A remap up to 90 is a fair jump up.

For that money, I wouldn't bother adding alloys.

Good luck with the cleaning.

The bodywork is pretty dire on closer inspection nothing major just shed like.

I have regrets the car is just too slow for me. I have done about 400 miles so far, cost about 35 quid so that is good.

I have steam cleaner roof liner and car interior, and the cloth was black, I have odour bombed it as well. There is still a whiff, I think it was spliffs as is just seems to still linger.

So far changed the steering wheel to a sport one, which is massive improvement. I have changed the air and cabin filters which were black, and booked in for an oil change on Monday.

I have bought new front brakes and pads as well which will change in the next few week. There is some rust in engine bay not bad just slight corrosion which will work on.

I have bought a new boot parcel shelf which I will pick up tomorrow. I like working on cars but it is just too slow, I will get everything sorted and probably see in in the next month, probably lose 300 quid but that is the way things are.

So was there any point in changing cars? If you factor in the fk on factor, so you save 100 notes in fuel a month, then your time sorting out niggles.

No not really but i like to tinker. I will keep it amd going to look out for a seat Tdi cupra which should satisfy my urges but time will tell. But in truth i will need to keep it for a few months to make the saving count, but i will look out for another car i can work on, no mot, work needed, type car.

I see, if the tinker side is something you enjoy then fair play!

On an other note i like your 206, as for underpowered well theres no such thing, just use the gas pedal as a switch heh
