Hello Everyone,

My name is Greg and i'm from Brisbane, Australia. I am a long time reader of Pistonheads, so i have finally joined up now.

I work for Renault in Australia so i may be biased to Renault, But I love all things cars. I have a lot of interest in track days and car related events.

My car is a 2013 build Renault Clio Mk4 Expression Tce 90 which I purchased in April 2014.

This Clio is my little baby and i'm making it my project car. I want to see how much i can push the 898cc 3 cylinder engine. It's quite a spirited little thing. I will also be changing things within the car to make it better.

The Clio has now ticked over 30,000klms this week.

CAR : 2013 Build Renault Clio IV Expression Tce 90 3 cylinder turbo manual.

FACTORY OPTIONS : Diamond Black Mettalic Paint, Red Exterior Trim, Red Interior Trim, Electric Pack.

MODIFICATIONS : K&N Panel Filter, Custom 2.5 Inch Turbo Back Exhaust System, Eibach Springs Pro-Kit, OZ Racing Leggenda Alloys Wheels Black, Federal 595 RSR Semi Slicks, Tinted Windows.

Here are a few photos of my first track outing at Lakeside Raceway.

Here is a video from the Euro day at Lakeside Raceway. As you can see I was way out in front. I was the first car to get going and was able to really push the Clio to the max. It's got quite an amazing chassis! Not much braking was involved. The standard tyres did quite well i thought.

This next video is at Queensland Raceway with my club. The Renault Car Club of Queensland. I already had the Eibach springs, Federal tyres and Oz Leggendas fitted.

A couple of photos of the starting point turbo back custom exhaust.

This is a sound clip of the custom exhaust.

Wow, certainly a bit different.

I also work for Renault (hello!) so I've driven a few of these, how does it feel compared to the standard car? Any plans for more boost and power? It would be interesting to see what this engine could do!

Two weeks ago went out on the track again to Lakeside Raceway with the www.vwwatercooled.com.au forum crew. Here are some photos from the day.

Close up of the OZ Racing Leggenda.

The Clio from the back.

The outgoing lap into the first corner.

My friend in his Fiesta ST chasing me. The first few laps I was pulling away. Then he got me on the main straight.

Passing a Citroen DS3.

This is the result from the dyno tune. A decent jump from stock just from the custom exhaust system and K & N filter. These numbers are not mind blowing but the difference is there. A ecu tune is yet to be done.

The handling has improved even more with the springs, wheels and tyres. There is heaps more pick up from down low and there is a big improvement in the top end rev range. That's were I think it excels. Yes there are plans for more boost and power! It will be interesting what could happen. Bigger intercooler, ecu tune , maybe make the stock turbo into a hybrid??

Hey matesmile

Thank you. They were always going to be those wheels for my car. They would look amazing on the RS250!

Good day!

This is quite cool, have you done a tune/dyno after your last?

The gains with a Filter and DP alone is quite amazing, seems like there is quite a restriction there?

Did the filter or exhaust make the biggest difference?

Sorry for the 1000 questions, it's just that nobody is modifying these Tce90 motors.

Mine is still under warranty so the amount of things I can do to it is quite limited.

Interestingly, Renault increased the power by 20hp and the torque now sits at 170nm for the Twingo TCe 110:

(Translated to English)
https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/tce-110-unterschie...

The 80 kW (109 hp) and 0.9-liter turbo engine (ENERGY TCe 110) with a torque of 170 Newton meters in the rear accelerates the small car with three cylinders from 0 to 100 km / h in a sporty 9.6s. It is currently only available for the GT and is based on the ENERGY TCe 90 and has the following modifications, according to the Renault Internal Seller Brochure:

-23 percent higher airflow
-12 percent lower intake air temperature additional air intake
-Higher speed of the turbocharger
-More powerful fuel pump for more throughput
-More powerful water pump for better cooling
-higher maximum speed of 6800 rpm

Even Brabus eeked out some more power (125hp/200nm) (Seems like a better intercooler is an addition here)
https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/tuning/smart-f...

the 0.9-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine 125 hp and increases the maximum torque to 200 Nm. The power increase was realized via a modified intake system, an even more efficient intercooler and a newly calibrated engine management system

It seems like there is quite a bit of potential to be extracted from this motor. (~40% power increase / ~50% torque increase)

Forgive my sceptisicm but why didn't you start with a sporty car and then improve where you can, seems like a difficult way to end up with a car probably no better than an rs250 or similar? Don't mean to sound like a knob it just seems like a strange way of going about it.

Nice looking car.

You don't have to wear helmets on track days?
