After just reading another post on one of these cars I thought I'd pop up some pictures of my recent purchase. I bought this as a daily driver to replace my 2007 Audi A6 3.0tdi, I do about 20k miles a year in the daily but I'm single and never really used all the space in the audi. I loved it but after four and half years I felt like a change.

The car is a 2007 sport model bought with 44k miles on the clock. It's the auto model as after having the Audi with the stronic I didn't want anything else as for a daily driver sat in traffic it makes life so much easier and I love using the paddles when out on fun drives. I'm running this car along side my weekend toy which is a supercharged mk1 mx5 so I've got two really practical cars.

The bmw will be staying standard and the only change will be to get rid of the awful run flat tyres. I've had the car about a month now and in that time I've not seen another one on the road which makes it feel more special.

Anyway some pics and maybe a couple of sneaky shots of the mx5

And I've finally got my plate on

Although you'd think them very similar in reality they are not. The bmw is comfy and refined the mx5 is just serious fun. The z4 feels like a bit of a boat if you drive it back to back with the mx5. The mx5 is far from standard though, it's got the Jackson racing supercharger, megasquirt ecu, competition clutched stage 4 paddle clutch, competition clutches ultra lightweight flywheel, wilwood four pots, bc coilovers, corner weighted suspension with a fast road alignment then it's got the cobra suzuka's with the harnesses so it just feels like a little race car. I couldn't live with the mx5 daily though the clutch is a nightmare in traffic.

OP, given the modifications to your MX5 I can see the Z4 would feel completely different.

I had a 123d for 6 and a half years - good enough car and it felt decently quick, but last year I sold it and got a Z4 Coupe. What a revelation! Had to be a Coupe for the looks (not to mention rarity) and the shell is reputedly much stiffer - never been a fan of convertibles in a country with a climate like ours!

Anyway, must congratulate you on your tasteful Black Coupe choice but then I am 100% biased!

I've owned my Coupe, also an SI Sport in black, since April and love it to bits.

The only thing I've done other than changing the engine and gearbox oil is to put some Michelin Pilot Sports on which transformed the ride.

Still only on 47,000 miles and I use it as my daily driver.

I hardly ever see another one although the convertibles seem much more common.

I bought last June with just over 54,000 miles and thought that was low! It's on 61,000 now but TBH I don't really care - every time I drive it feels like a special occasion.

All I have done is have the control arm bushes (AKA lollipops I believe) replaced and now it goes where I point it instead of following ripples in the tarmac! Still on run-flat Bridgestones but they had so much tread I have just lived with it, plus I wouldn't feel comfortable going long distances with only a tube of goo as back-up! When they need replacing I will look at other RFT options - from what I have read on Z4 Forum newer designs of RFT are better.

Coupes are pretty rare, but I regularly see 4 others within a mile of my house. Nice to live in a discerning area. laugh
