I've had a quick look on google and it looks like the sat nav computer that sits in the left of the boot has a cooling fan in the rear. This might have failed causing the issue. Electronics do some weird stuff when they get too hot, it might be worth having a look. HTH.

Cheers, I'd been googling it too and came across a suggestion of disconnecting it all over night.

Oddly it hasn't done it since, and I've been out in the car a fair bit today.

One to keep an eye on.

In other news, the blower motor has started working again, after I did the grand total of nothing! The only thing I did do was resync the keys to try and get the second key working. Very odd.

Popped to see my parents this week, returned 26mpg pretty much which wasn't bad going up the M1.

OP if it makes you feel any better my E39 M5 cost me a fortune to begin with. £1600 on clutch, service, brakes and wheel bearing, new tyres, wheel refurb...knocking on £2.5k.

This was before I gelled with it, so it really put me off, and made me wonder what the hell I'd done. IMO the car is one that takes some time to truly appreciate, and after a while I came to really admire its breadth of abilities. Stick with it, it'll repay you and then some!

Kinda hehe

I owned one before so I have no issues with appreciating it smile.

I think over winter I may stick it in a my local indy's again and get them to go over a few things. I might even have my Audi fixed by then hehe

Looks lovely AngryDog.

I recall you owned one previously around the same time I had one... mine has since been sold, but I really should of bloody held onto it for another year or so looking at the prices. Your one looks like a keeper.

Unlucky to get a few issues cropping up close together but that's the way it can go with any car unfortunately. Looks a nice example overall though.

E39 M5 remains one of my unscratched itches, and looking at your photos I can't help thinking how classy and understated it looks today, especially when compared to the tinsel encrusted tat that the "prestige" manufacturers seem to be churning out these days.

Nice choice and hope you resolve the issues without too much grief.

Thank you. It's not looking as nice at the moment, a bird had a very full bowel yesterday dropped its cargo on it. It is proving VERY hard to shift hehe

I could've done that with mine earlier in the year but it probably wasnt worth keeping hold of. What did you replace yours with?

At least it wasn't as bad as the Audi coolant flange failure lol. Thanks.

You should definitely think about getting one if you still like analogue cars that car be fixed by yourself. And has a dipstick to check the oil lol. I like its "blend in ability". The blower motor worked today when I temp fitted the new FSU. I just need to find a few hours to get it fitted now as its a bit of a job I believe!

Fsu replaced. Wasn't too bad a job to do.

The old one started working yesterday but I am pretty sure it's done for. See how this one goes for a few days and then cancel the replacement of the fan motor as no point replacing that if it's not necessary

It hasn't really been replaced unfortunately. It wasn't getting used due to a new job/commute and it needed a few wear and tear bits replacing; tyres, brakes etc. Couldn't really justify keeping it anymore. Now I just have a family shed (Grand Cherokee) and motorbikes.

I think a replacement may need to be found in the new year. Possibly along the lines of an XJR.

Fair enough, I am using mine less than I used my old one as this is mainly for fun rather than anything else. An XJR sounds like a decent shout, good value to buy etc. If I didn't want a manual gearbox I'd have considered one or an E55K (If I could talk the mrs into one lol).

Since replacing the FSU I still have a fan blower. Yay!

Battery seems fine, no more issues with the Nav screen either.

I replaced the side repeaters with smoked versions, I think they just look better and go well with the carbon black colour. No pics at the moment though.

Carried out an oil change on Sunday in preparation for my trip to Belgium tomorrow. Fan blower is still working and I've ordered a few more spares that will hopefully come before I leave tomorrow, just a fuel pump relay and wiper relay as they arent your usual relays, and it is always good to have spares.

Got spare bulbs sorted and a spare FSU as well just in case!

Bit of an update.

Not much to report really. Car isn't running 100% Spot on but I am pretty sure I know why. Problem is is that I need to take the car off the road to do the work and as it's my daily (covering some 2600 miles a month at the moment). Need a new daily really.

Once. I have a new dd I plan to take this off the road and carry out the following:

Vanos board and solenoid maintenance
Fit fuel filter
Oil service
Fit new cam shaft sensors
Fit new timing chain tensioner

Buy and fit new big brake kit
Buy and fit new suspension
Buy and fit new wheels

Then I think a remap and possibly go for new exhaust manifolds while I save up for a super charger conversion

Hi I can help you out with a big brake kit if you're interested I have two available in 6/8 Pot form, both are as new unused, I'm in no rush to sell (I might get round to getting the E39 Alpina) so take your time one set of discs will only fit inside a 19" Rim.

Thanks for the offer. What are they? KSport or PB Brakes? I get trade discount off both so I guess it depends what you're after for them and if they have logos on them as I want a set without the logos.

Willwood 6 Pots Brembo 8 Pots AP discs with Performance Friction Pads all Logo'd so I don't think they're what you're looking for.

19's definitely needed. I can't see those being less than £1500 to buy as a kit!
