E39 M5 - V8 content

Not updated this for a while. I still have it lol.
Had some new passenger side Cam shaft sensors fitted a few weeks back. Still stutters low down so looking like vanos board maintenance required.
Had it mini detailed on Saturday and I have to say it came up nicely

I have some plans for it soon!

Love the E39 and love mine.
Last 2 years I hardly drove it, instead using the z06 for a daily hack. Then the last 8 months I worked away so never drove. New job is a local commute over some of wiltshires finest back roads. Today I brought the e39 and it was an animal, utterly loved it. Not as frantic as the vette but then the gearing is very different too! Every time I drive this car on roads that it was made for, I fall in love with it all over again.
Just replaced the brakes all round, big saving from Cotswold and fitted by my local Polish garage (epic mechanics). Had the ARB bushes done which was a big improvement, keeping on top of fluids etc with the Polish lads (with a bi-annual trip to BMW just for the stamps ).
Had the boot handle sorted, sills are in very good nick, had some spots of rust sorted a few years back, couple new bubbles now so planning on sorting them but a complete glass out respray.
2 other jobs for this year is to replace shocks (not springs) and beef up the ARBs and to do the Bavaudio speaker upgrade.
Love the M5 logo on your start up, as I have the Road Master crap I dont get to see that.

That's not bad. Not bad at all. What's the ball park top line for the C63 and e63?
My plan is to go for the reasonable/driveable 670bhp 660lb/ft torque charger kit or depending on mileage I might play it safe & go for the 637bhp 580lb/ft torque kit. Both work out at around the 10k or I could go mad spend an extra 2k & pray it lasts a year (I won't far to sensible) & go for the 740bhp 630lb/ft but it's a pain to run cars at this output as I know from running my 696bhp SL55 every time I came home from a hard run and didn't have something to checkout it was a good day.
The drivetrain was bullet proof it was all the normal SL things that couldn't cope, mainly the suspension related the the ancilary belts didn't like being spun up that hard.
Saying that my E500 seems to be coping with big bhp much more easily.

Update time.
The knock was a drop link. Replaced that and then when doing an hour change it was noticed that the aux belts were starting to fall apart. Had these replaced and a new fuel filter fitted as I suspect the original one was still on the car.
Last weekend I took the car out for a run to Shorpe to see a mate. I hadn't used the car for around a month, but had started it up. It started up a bit rough but settled down. This time it started fine but at certain speeds / revs the car feels like it is shuddering. A few ideas have been suggested, so I am going to explore these as I already have some of the parts, with this being VANOS board maintenance. The car has 140k miles on it so it's very possible.
Then I need to decide if I am going to sell it or not. While I like the car, it's not fast enough for me any more, and I still miss owning a turbocharged petrol car. Trouble is most of the ones in my price range are not what I would want to take on long distance drives, and while I like the 335i, the quality of the interior etc just feels like a step down from an E39 M5.
Suggestions on a post card?

What's the shuddering like? I'm not sure if I've got something similar, engine doesn't feel quite as smooth when it revs. It's not really harsh, seems most noticeable around 3k. I did wonder if I was just imagining it. Mine is similar miles to yours (137k). What's been suggested?

The suggestions are dirty VANOS solenoids, seals, broken wiring.
Others have been air leak, flywheel and crankshaft sensors, though two are 6 months old and 2 are around 2 years old.
I do love these! I "almost" bought one over the M3 but in the end I fancied the M3 for a variety of reasons.
Despite the issues yours looks like a great buy .

Miss AngryDog doesnt like modern cars as such. She likes her 2013 Twingo RS just fine, but hates the E60 and F10 M5. Maybe in a few years I will convince her that an F10 is a good edition if I do not keep and supercharge this.
Just ordered a part of new tyres for the rear - £262 delivered. Oh well lol
If it makes you feel better I have a tyre bill coming up ; £360 worth for 2 tyres. Ouch!Just ordered a part of new tyres for the rear - £262 delivered. Oh well lol

I'll need to put some tyres on this next year at some point. Unless I sell it over winter and get an f10. But I don't quite have the budget for that yet
