BORING COMMENT ALERT!: Think of getting one for high mileage, what sort of mpg have you got on long runs? Basically its one of these or a 330d for me for my new commute
I average about 35 on motorway run in a Seat with the same chassis and engine. My record is 41mpgMost people seem to report between 31-36mpg on the motorway. A few people report considerably less in very similar driving but I'm of the view that they've probably got broken PCVs or similar issues which increase fuel consumption without any other characteristic problems and therefore often go unidentified.
Very good effort OP! I had one very similar to yours, black 2006 dsg, but sold it when I started doing big mileage. Currently driving a MK7 GTD, maybe I should have stuck with petrol power...
When you say DSG controller is this the same as the mechatronics unit? Still on the original clutch packs?

Just read your blog, surely you must be tempted to get it to 500k?
Also what's that naughty little french thing in your garage

interesting.. i considered doing the same thing, but I couldn't find a nice GT TDI at the time, so just carried on... I still love it..
It was the DSG selector unit, so I've had two of these now

I'd go with that too. Mid 30's on long motorway runs 75-80mph. Less if faster.
Around town though, 20-25 is pretty normal. Some of my shorter commutes less than 20.
On the plus side, super unleaded is quite cheap at the moment

I get the same out of my Focus & that's apparently a total dipsomaniac equivalent .

My friend just sold his mk5 it was pushing 560bhp with side exhausts for good measure. Not a bad way to spend 30k
Actually it is. Surely for £30k + purchase price you could buy something special with more than 500bhp that would be more special than a family hatchback and it would still be worth more than £30k 6 months later.Just sayin'.

Superb effort and this is how to get the total ownership cost per mile nice and low buy a car and keep it for many years and also actually do some miles in it.
Disc and pad wear is very god going. I'd imagine oh probably faced rear disc corrosion before they had worn down on thickness?
