AWESOME! biggrin

Almost bought a CX Pallas 2400 C-Matic around 5 years ago. Nothing wrong with the car, although it needed new paint...

Will the car remain silver? Also needs flag holders so you can pretend to be a French head of state...

Yeah, it is a proper car for conveying folks- the legroom is ridiculous!

As to the colour- i'll make a decision once I've worked out what to do with the doors and wings. I quite like the shabbiness!

This, to me, is a fail. Just no. You've not delivered. I mean, come on, could you not even manage a CX estate? wink

But seriously, this is awesome - I love the BX and the CX is properly fantastic. I love that it was the french that made this, and other great, odd cars smile

Oooh... Low-roof Prestige porn.

Compare the roofline of that to the standard length saloon and to the OP's Prestige - the story goes that Mitterand moaned that there wasn't enough headroom in the back, so they raised the roof a couple of inches after about a year of Prestige production.

yup mine is the high roof - slightly less space in most front rooms tbh!

Suffice to say, getting it home was not without its troubles,

we made it 50 miles into the planned 500, then had to fly home..

I've typed it all up for my blog, but long story short,

alternator = no charge = m25 breakdown

joy!

the plan is to have a look at getting the alternator off and source a replacement this weekend.

the most gutting thing is that it was a non Citroen specific failure!

Bork-tastic. Immense prospect of tinworm and random hydraulic and electrical infarction, I salute you sir. If I were braver I'd buy one.

Cool car, this is the French equivalent of my '81 Merc SEL 500. I have created some magnetic removable bonnet mounted flag poles which have been speed tested to a fairly undignified level :-)

They help result in a lot of bemused and amused responses/looks.

Cost about £20 all in, feel free to pm me if you are amused by the idea and I will fill you in on what I used.

I've had it on the ramp- good and solid underneath thankfully. The rusty doors can be sorted with a swap over to the pairs supplied with the car. then its just cosmetics and keeping on top of the mechanicals

What a fabulous choice of vehicle. Love them. They lines on the early CX's are stunning, like something from a 70s sci-fi movie.

It will always be superbly cool. in an uncool kind of way, which is perfect.

I think this kind of thing should be mandatory; how do you do it?

Sounds like you pretty much had the opposite collection story to mine since I went Glasgow o Brighton and didn't have a single issue.

Wouldn't be too disappointed about it being a generic part. I'm sure you've seen some of the CX specific prices on CX-basis and the like. yikes

I do love the Prestige for that ridiculous leg room. Such a fantastically different approach to luxury and style compared to everything else.

It was a surprisingly arduous process in all honesty.

I ran through about 5 different prototypes before I ended up with the current iteration.

The only purpose built options I could find were extremely expensive, as in £90 each without flags.

I ended up buying some desk flags from eBay (1000 flags do them along with many other) I bought some metal pole to replace the rather bendy at 100mph plastic ones (they are only for desks after all) and then removed the flag pole tops before hollowing them out.

I then sprayed the base and pole in gloss black along with the tops. I glued the pole into the base for security and then the key bit which took a number of attempts was to Gorilla Glue magnets into the bases.

I started with 3 circular ones in each base, but they were not strong enough and I lost a few.

I ended up with 1 quite small magnet in each base, but they are super powerful and that is the important bit. I then covered the bases with electrical tape to prevent scratching.

The flags are not designed for high speeds obviously and do fray a bit, but that adds some "patina" :-)

I can change the flags easily as the tops slip off and I have just bought some skull and crossbones for a laugh :-).

I whip them on and off and they are quite popular with my neighbours it seems :-)

I am on my phone but will try and post some pics if I remember next week.
