I can't help myself.. Citroen CX Prestige purchased!
Discussion
Got a bit more looked at on this at the weekend - key thing is solving the charging issue
Spare Alternator
Plenty of stuff in the way
Inlet off, still can't really see it
Got 1 pulley off, and could get to the 21mm back bolt. Unfortunatly I didnt have a 21mm spanner, and a socket and ratchet would not fit..
at this point I put it back together and will take it to a local alternator place tomorrow -they are apparently able to supply and fit for a reasonable price.

Cheers! I'm hoping to be able to drive this long enough for it to become second nature, rather than odd..
I hope, anyway!
Apparently, they always used to say about CXs... "Drive one for ten minutes, you'll never want to drive another. Drive one for ten hours, you'll never want to drive anything else."I hope, anyway!
I haven't had a CX for about 15 years - I still miss 'em.
Success this morning- Spent a bit of time getting it ready for a trial run out..
I got the coolant topped up, battery charged up and put the expansion cap on. No over pressurising. much positivity!
ready to depart
How am i meant to get information from this?
No steam after the first run!
Despite successes in the coolant front, it wouldnt be an old Citroen without some issue. In this case the weak alternator and a battery clamp that would not tighten conspired to make for a lack of electricity.
Very happy with the lack of steam despite it being running for 1.5hrs.
just the charging and 1000 other things to sort now..

They are an aquired taste, I gave my brother his first shot of it..I haven't had a CX for about 15 years - I still miss 'em.
About a mile in you could see him adapt to it and settle in. By the time I got it back, he was most taken with it, if a bit discombobulated!

The lid comes off the shell easily - just a few screws in from beneath. Then the instrument panel comes out and dismantles fairly simply, too, IIRC. Gawd, it's a long while since I had 'em out of my old black Athena... Give the lenses a good clean and polish, and you'll be gobsmacked at the difference.TooMany2cvs said:

Another job for the listMadness ! But I like it, an interesting machine indeed. I worked on a few of these 30 years ago, a truly crazy machine, the camshaft drove everything apart from the cig lighter and they were an absolute cow to work on. If i recall correctly, the factory time for replacing the clutch was about 2 months.

Op. Well done, you are a certifiable nutter.
Always loved the CX but having owned an old premium French car recently, I just wouldn't have the balls.
Concave rear screen is great.
Ta muchly, screen is one of a myriad superb design touches on it.Always loved the CX but having owned an old premium French car recently, I just wouldn't have the balls.

That is a wonderful car. Well done OP.
Thanks!I have identified the following so far re the electrical issues:
1. Alternator not charging properly
2. Battery looks a touch ropey
3. Alternator Belt has been changed
4. New Alternator can be supplied cheaply
5. Getting the bd bolt off could be problematic as it appears to be seized in..
Will start trying to see about getting it off tomorrow!

Have you get the suspension set to high?
Remember being stuck in a snarl up on Waterloo Bridge.
Got fed up, stuck suspension in high and walked the car over the central pavement to head back in the other direction.
Also when parked. Make sure the front wheels are turned to full lock, suspension on low and then the clampers couldn't get their contraption on any of your wheels.
