I know of one of these for sale for 1000 quid - grey, manual, cross spoke wheels. Said to have done under 62,000 miles. No MoT, though, unlike mine which has a year's ticket with only corroded brake piping as an advisory. Brakes are for LOOZAZ anyway.

This one:

Work in progress!

Three years ago it cost me £300 and a slightly dying Mondeo TDCI. Three years of reliable service and it's earned a spruce-up.

I had one of those, they have delightful steering feel.

Even on 18" counterfeit Alpina wheels it was as comfortable as my current Jaguar.

Nice smoker. Do they all sit that high at the front?

given most people seem to lease a car worth more than 100% of their annual salary this must be pretty close to the most budgeted car on PH?

I'd imagine the purchase price of this car would be measured in hours if not minutes for a Lawyer!

Perhaps it's BV72's SD1 and Dolly but that looked just like a Triumph 2000/2500 estate when I first looked at it. Blame the bustle and glasshouse.

I had a brief fling with an E34 530i Touring and loved every minute of it. Sublime wafting, adequate power and just enough V8 woofle when the right foot was thrust carpetwards. Also a jolly nice place to be.

A car I shall never forget!

Yesterday I was schlepping along in the E34 and I came up behind and then passed an E30 325i of indeterminate age (private plate), and later a G reg debadged E30 (presumably a small engined one, hence no badges, as that used to be a thing). I waved cheerily at both drivers, but I suppose that they just thought I was driving some old shed. E30s are now classic cars. E34s are still in banger territory.

That just shows their ignorance, then. Your E34 oozes classic quality. A lovely barge.

If the UK gets any serious snow this winter I think you might be pleasantly surprised by the CrossClimates, which have received excellent reviews in the German press (usually, excellent tyre reviews are the exclusive property of Continental, so they must be good!)

That is what I am hoping! My Landy has general all terrain Maxxis on it - suitability for snow unknown. I will get some chains for both Bimmer and Landy.

Lovely looking car BV!

Mind you I can't help thinking it was the general desire to buy Germanic wonderfulness in the 80s & 90s that helped accelerate the death of the shonk-tastic BL products of that era!

Still you have both so no particular bias.

Just idly wondering, but do you have any plans to open a museum - I would happily buy a ticket!

Enjoy your E34 (and all the others)!thumbup

yes Quality, classic barge which is still very much under the radar and entirely free from baseball capped tracksuited McDonalds carpark pot purveyor connotations.

No news is good news - car continues to be smooth, comfy, warm, great for long journeys to see my daughter. Starts on freezy mornings, defrosts itself fast, generally behaves.

A handsome and capable car. My grandfather had a 525 in the same colour combination in the 1980s.

Lovely thing. I still think it's the best looking 5 series.
I had a 93 525 in black with a light grey interior for 3 years, eventually parting with it because the repair bills were going to be quite a bit more than it was worth.

Great for distance, terrifying in the wet with the evil Pirelli P6000 tyres, and properly crap in snow (same tyres). It was a good mix of comfort with enough pace and handling ability to be fun.

Bloomin Cherman fiddly bits. A tail lamp bulb blew on the Bimmerheap. The bulb sits in a self Earthing plastic holder that you can pull out from inside the boot, but I cannot for the life of me get the freckin thing to go back in properly, so the connection keeps failing. Now I find myself sat in dark lay bys fiddling with the rump of some old German girl.
