Chris I still love this GTA and what you did to it. Do you still own her or did you sell her on?

On a side note though, looks like I'll be buying my old GTA back because the guy needs to move her on.

I hope the car was cheap when you bought it!
It was cheap yes. The thing is, at the time of purchase, I wasn't insured to other drive cars on through my own insurance. So I wasn't able to pick up on reverse gear being a problem. The other bits and pieces I've done have either been routine or just general tidying that you'd expect of any car.

Bloody hell! That seems like such a labour of love for an occasional use hatchback - I'm sure there are sports and supercar owners who have spent less time and effort keeping their cars on the road.

Kudos to you for the effort, but it does strike me that the GTA isn't a car that can be used daily without significant upkeep.
Thank you - The only major thing has been the cambelt and clutch. I took the engine out because it's easier to do both jobs that and way and is technically the quicker option. The fact we took the time to clean things up isn't really reflective of the car being needy or fragile - far from it. The previous is also representative of 2.5years of ownership and it shouldn't want for much over the next 2 years...

Cheers. Still got it - I only finshed rebuilding it last weekend! I did see you'd been given the option to get yours back. After a respray - That's a cheap way of going about getting that done!!!

Forget everything else, they're worth it for the throttle response and the noise!

Very interesting, although it looks like a bit of a slog at times!

Please please stop using that horrible HDR effect filter though, it hurts my eyes!

I guess it just felt like a huge accumulation of small flaws that I wouldn't have expected in a hatchback of this age, like rust in the door shuts. Still, it seems worth the effort, so more power to you.

There wasn't exactly any rust in the door shuts, I took the doors off just to clean them up as they were filthy. The sills were scuffed through people getting an and out to the point where the paint had been worn though and this area was starting to corrode. But that isn't going to b any different with any other car. I was being a bit anal about it tbh.

Kudos on the time and patience you've given sorting the car out - it's a lovely looking thing. Big engine in small car is always an appealing formula, and I've always loved the GTA. Not sure I could stomach running a car that's as needy though.

Do it, I fitted a set on my old GTA and I can't recommend them enough. Then take the car to Blink Motorsport to set them up properly wink

Fantastic work! I really miss my GTA.

Looks like you are really on top of things,

My headlights misted up, and I think that is a normal GTA thing, so it may not be an indication of a front end shunt. Will be much better with the xenons.

I had a Q2 fitted to mine, which was great. Mine had 330mm brakes when I got it, and I had a Ragazzon exhaust fitted too, which was delicious.

Would love another one some day.
The headlights that were fitted when I got it were standard 147, they didn't have the black out reflectors which made me question the front end shunt thing. But having looked at it in more detail, it was supposed to have xenons too - the load sensors are there. So it may be that the light units just packed up.

Yup, Q2 fitted, seems less aggressive than the quaife I had in the 156.

330's - I still maintain they're wheel jewellery and the 305's are perfectly adequate but having new callipers on it has certainly sharpened up the brakes.

Great stuff. They are really special cars, and are getting more special over time as there will never be anything like them again.

Alfaowner is a great site if you aren't on it.

Yeah, I seem to remember that there was some perceived issue with the 305 brakes that wasn't really an issue if you did something. Sorry I can't be more precise!
Alfaowner? *coughs - Chris155*... LOL

156.net was where I used to hang out. Never got on with the Alfaowner lot.
