The BRM was always unpopular in the general mainstream - but the people who knew what they were, appreciated them. I'd adore something like this, but missed the boat big time! Don't take this the wrong way, but build a car for you - not for shows. If you enjoy it, that's what owning a nice modified car is about. A mate of mine is just obsessed with shows, trophies, and crap like that and spends an inordinate fortune - MK2 Golf R32 turbo now at 500+ horses. But Insanely expensive paint, wheels worth more than my daily driver and slammed on its arse, show pony. Yeah, he gets the trophies for sure, but I'd rather have it to drive and enjoy. Besides, shows mean a lot of painful cleaning biggrin

Frankly if I were at a car show, it's oddball 20-year-old cars like this that interest me the most. The sea of Stags, Capris, E Type, old Fords, new BMWs and 100 variants of classic Mini soon get old.

As someone said above, never modify a car to be a show pony. Modify it to suit you. You're the one who looks at it, hears it and drives it more than anyone else, after all!

Little update. Been out and about a bit in the BRM this year. Pride of Longbridge, Bromley Motoring Pageant and most recently Tunerfest at Brands Hatch where I displayed with the individual exhibits.

At Tunerfest it was quite fun seeing the varying reactions. A lot of people don't know what it is (especially those under 35), but seem to appreciate the clean bodywork and engine bay (and big turbo). I've introduced further confusion with the ZR bodywork. Quite a few guys approached from the side saying something like "oooh a BRM" promptly followed by "oh jesus!" when they saw the engine bay.

The engine and gearbox are holding up well to a fair bit of abuse. Obviously I always warm it up before any big throttle inputs.

Quite enjoying the general craziness of this car at the moment. Every drive is an event with the whooshes, whistles and loud turbo flutter. I really need to find time and money to sort the handling out as it would make for a much better overall drive. That will be a winter job.
