Car looks great, ive been considering getting one but i do not like the idea of owning one without warranty, and ive had some horrendous quotes for carrying on or taking out new warranty with bmw. One was on a car thats been under warranty from new, fbmwsh ect and the wanted £230 a month with £100 excess per claim! You could lease a new golf r for that

I pay £100 pm on mine, no excess. Mileage is under 60k which is when it shoots up. If you buy one with under 60k the premium, I believe, stays at that level for aslong as you own the vehicle, regardless of mileage.

Mine has gone up twice in 3 years and that's on monthly, £102 when I took it out at 52K miles, £106 and now £112. Mine is on 61,900 miles. Zero excess.

Just buy one under 60k that's already under Mondial if you want the cheaper warranty rate.

A short clip from Go Pro on back bumper toe eye mount, Bedford Autodrome trackday April 2016.

took some in car footage but the sound was rubbish, maybe next time I need to remove the back door on the go pro for more sound?

Update: Since I've been driving my wife's brand new Golf GTI DSG I've found the M5 hard work to drive when just popping to the shops etc it feels like a dinosaur compared with the Golf. So I've been on the BMWUSEDCARS site everyday looking at F10 M5's and F80 M3's for the last few weeks, I think the F80 M3"s are out of my budget at the moment though. The sensible thing would be to hang onto the E60 for another 6 months or so. Went into BMW today as my spare key fob has stopped unlocking the car and thankfully they are going to renew it under the Mondial warranty. Also ordered 4 Michelin pilot super sports as my Contis took too much punishment on track and my fault but they overheated on the front ( pressures ).
Just trying to get a bit of love back for the car as it feels after nearly 3 years it's time to move on to a newer M.

Just got back from France where I covered 1500 miles in a week in the M5 without any issues. Averaged 21.2 mpg overall with 4 people and luggage. Had the oil changed by BMW when I got back Going to hang onto the E60 M5 for a bit longer I think.

Hi Simon,

Always nice to read your updates. It's a lovely car, and glad you've been enjoying it. Those longer Euro trips are where it excels, not popping to the shops! smile

It's certainly the last of an era M car wise. You can do no harm keeping it as prices seem to be holding up well, if not rising for decent cars.

Thanks, I think it's one of the better examples. She's on 64,000 now. It's been reliable but the warranty has deffo paid for itself with the few things that have been replaced under warranty.

I think I will definately change it for an F10 or F80 , yet to drive either though. I don't think the price of mine will go up as it's got 64,000 miles on it now but the depreciation since I bought it nearly 3 years ago isn't a lot really and I will probably let it go with the M5 SMG number plate when the time comes, that's got to be one of the best plates for an E60 M5.

They do sound epic with an exhaust mod, I had mine modded for 6 months and then put it back to standard as it was a bit much for normal use and cold start was bloody loud! If I could get hold of some standard E60 M5 back boxes locally at a fair price I would do a quarter wrap on each of the 4 pipes as that would probably be about right.

I never owned a sedan as a 2nd car but I am really tempted by the E60 M5, the time passes but it remains among my wishlist and the memories of some drives in them are still special...
Great looking example!

Had the oil service done a few weeks ago and the dealer reported a diff leak and noisy Vanos. Took it back in yesterday and got the call today that the warranty have approved new diff seals and all 4 Vanos solenoids to be replaced. After the solenoids have been replaced they will then test to see if that cures the noise or if any further parts need changing. Bill is over £3K so far. Looking forward to getting it back and then I am getting Royal steering wheels to refurb the steering wheel with their suede rim, saw one on another E60 M5 and it looked really good.

Your car is a needle in a haystack of turbocharged sports cars. Keep on to it, and savour the naturally aspirated engine this car has, as it probably won't happen again with BMW.

This car is amazimg. As many have said this type of engine is a rare thing these days.

That warranty sounds really good as well considering the mileage.

I've never heard of a single after market warranty pay out until reading this.

It's not really an aftermarket warranty though, it's called BMW Insured Warranty wink
Also the previous owner of my car had about £10k worth paid out by Warranty Wise, even included a clutch/flywheel! (after quite a bit of back and forth I think)

I would for sure test drive before you change, I'm currently in an F10 M5 having had 2 E60's and I miss the engine badly! I don't miss the gearbox in traffic and the new car is more accomplished and far quicker but it definitely isn't as much as an event.

Horses for courses really and it may be rose tinted glasses but I can't help thinking the E60 will become a classic, who knows?

This is the major problem with this car.... the BMW software simply goes through a diagnostic and suggests replacement in a tier effect.

My car started not idling properly immediately after the battery was changed (basically vanos was rattling), i have not driven it in 2 months because of it.... the BMW software says replace all 4 vanos solenoids, however BMW put the price of these from £100 each to £1000 each on 1st July this year so I was very nervous of simply replacing them without knowing for sure especially as its extremely unlikely they would all fail at same time.... anyhow I have ignored the software and done further investigation and turns out its the vanos pump or line in the sump.

Given yours is having all 4 solenoids replaced means the warranty company already have 5k on this alone (I would hope they would have donethe bleed cycle first anyhow)... if it turns out to be the vanos pump like mine then they will be wasted money changing the solenoids and thus what makes the car so expensive to maintain.

In my case it seems to be complete coincidence that it failed mechanically when the battery was changed frown

Going to do the rod bearing while I'm in the sump lol

The Independent I use made up a tool for measuring the Vanos pump pressure as they are often the problem.
