2003 Porsche Boxster S
Discussion
Lovely. I'd love a classic boxster that's been as well cared for as yours but I just don't have the patience, time nor skill to buy one and do it myself so I envy you greatly - what a beautiful effort youv've made with this.
FYI this is the 996 I talked about, very slight hint of bronze/gold to the wheels which I think looks fantastic!

Thanks very much mate to be honest, most of the things I've done on this car I've never done on any other. It's just a matter of research online and as you say, a lot of patience is needed. That's the main thing really FYI this is the 996 I talked about, very slight hint of bronze/gold to the wheels which I think looks fantastic!

Nice to see a wee photo of my car crop up on this thread (the Peridot Cayman R above) - sad to say the wheels aren't as clean as that currently!
Keep up the good work with your car, I'd say go for silver or gunmetal for the wheels. Really like what you've done with it!
Thank you hope you don't mind me using it as inspiration! Keep up the good work with your car, I'd say go for silver or gunmetal for the wheels. Really like what you've done with it!
Had a bit of sun today so gave the car a thorough clean with a fresh coat of wax.
Just bought a Google Pixel and the camera is just ridiculous!
Lovely Boxster, I am also a convert of the cheap and cheerful Chinese Android stereos, just fitted one to my Merc CLS and am amazed at the features for £180, I just bought the cheapest 4.4 and its brilliant so far, like you say, bit of faffing to get it in but Spotify on the move and not limited to maps from the Middle Ages.

Absolutely! It’s absolutely outstanding value for money. I’ve noticed Spotify can be a little slow on start-up but using Bluetooth connectivity which activates the moment the radio is on is far better if you’re wanting to listen to music straight away, as you can play it straight from your phone.Heaveho said:
For Gods sake man, get some OPC number plates on it , what's wrong with you!
Car's lovely btw. Liking that head unit, wish I knew what the hell I was doing with stuff like that, I can't even be bothered to learn how to post pics, ffs!
On the list of things to do bud! Need to get round to doing that actually...Car's lovely btw. Liking that head unit, wish I knew what the hell I was doing with stuff like that, I can't even be bothered to learn how to post pics, ffs!

Here's mine, apologies for the general state of dirtiness in comparison #nogleaminghere. Wheels look great in grey and are different to the trend. Easy enough to go back to silver if needed.

Just found this thread. Fantastic stuff, very inspiring. Enjoyed all 14 pages so far.
But what happened to the faux-alacantara? I didn't see any mention of why it isn't on the car anymore?
It started to fade purple in the sun, and even if it didn’t it wasn’t ‘perfect’, and that’s kind of what I’m aiming for with this car. I’ve always said, if someone looks at something and goes “Oh I like what you’ve done there!”, then it’s not good enough as it needs to look factory fitted. So it went in the bin all the plastics were fine underneath, apart from the A-Pillars which I had to buy again. I’ve still got my old ones. But what happened to the faux-alacantara? Right! Sorry for the lack of updates! The car had its MOT and I was gutted to see that it failed, but on emissions and rigid brake lines (slight corrosion here and there). Some lines were a fail, some were advisories, but I don’t want any advisories on this car. They were done for me for a good price as I know the garage very well (family friends), so they did all of the car’s lines (yep, front, back, the ones that run above the gearbox, the whole lot) for £300 all in cash in hand.
It also failed on emissions like I said, but found this to be a loose throttle body hose clamp which was a close call, as I almost bought a new lambda sensor. Emissions were fine after this.
There were a couple of advisories - two front tyres had cracks (they were on the alloys when I bought them off a friend so they may have been a little old), flexi hoses at the front had slight cracks and that was about it. I decided to do the lot as, like said, I want this car to be perfect so I don’t want any advisories. It cost £600 in total, £300 of the being the brake lines, £240 being the tyres, and £60 being the front hoses. Sounds a lot but there wasn’t a lot wrong with it, just pricey tyres and labour for the brake lines. In all fairness to the garage they were brilliant.
There’s no corrosion anywhere on the car aside from those brake lines, and they said they can’t imagine it failing on anything aside from consumables from this point on. Going to undersea the car soon to make sure of it.
But on another note, sorry for the lack of updates guys, had quite an interesting past few months. Me and my partner split so that's been a bit of a troublesome period trying to help her move (was on good terms, but stressful never the less). Still, more time to spend on this!
Nothing new to report after the MOT though, enjoying every minute of it in this stunning weather.
Decided to treat it with sealant and two coats of wax:
God i love this Boxster.
Sorry to hear about your split - was it a long relationship or?
Your thread made me finally push the button on a Porsche, i'd have been happy with a Boxster as bang for buck they are cracking but I just had to scratch that 911 itch. Once it's been scratched I reckon i'll move onto a Boxster thanks to your thread ! IF you ever decide to sell please get in touch
Any tips on getting the paintwork like the glass yours is? Is a machine polisher the main thing?

Kind of long yeah, but it's all good. Thanks for the concern though Sorry to hear about your split - was it a long relationship or?

Thanks for the kind words, really now. It's lovely to see the appreciation I get towards the car, as I do put a lot of thought and hours into it! In about 3 and a half years time I'll be buying a 996 911. Basically what I'd want is a black 996, aero kit front bumper, skirts, rear wing, and the GT3 alloys.
Basically this:
...which is for sale on AutoTrader now for £15,000. Just wish I had the money. I will in a few years though, so that's the plan.
But the trouble is, this is giving me absolutely no reason to sell it. It's been incredible and is continuing to be amazing.
Regarding the paintwork, it's one thing getting it to this stage, and it's another keeping it. Washing it incorrectly even once can install swirls on the paintwork all over again. Washing, claying, DA with Megs 105 compound & heavy cutting pad, DA with Megs 105 polish & finishing pad, AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection, Victoria Concours Wax. That's how it's got to this stage now, but like I said you need to wash it correctly too.
Putting a sponge over it, or a chamois to dry it, or washing it with one bucket, or hot water, will just scratch it again as Porsche paintwork is incredibly soft. Every time I wash it I do it with three buckets (one for the wheels to make it easier), sheep skin mitt, plush drying towel, detailing brushes, etc. It takes an hour at most, but that's from me deciding to wash it right to sitting back on the sofa with all of the kit packed away. That's an hour yeah, but I last machine polished this car a year ago and it still hasn't got a single swirl mark because of the way it's washed. With how I look after it, it shouldn't need a machine polish again.
If you need any tips though, just let me know! On the same note, I do detail cars, so I can help there too

Car is looking great, well done for not going with black on the wheels too
I'm still considering it. I love the look of a black wheel when done correctly - shows off the brakes and the glossy shine when clean is something to be said for, but I'm not sure this shape of wheel can hold up with it being black.geraintthomas said:
