Something is very off there, surely you can't lose that much power in a FWD car. I wonder if the estimated drive train losses were set high causing a much larger crank figure?

I know with Impreza's which have a lot of drive train loss due to AWD they estimate around 18%.
It's more like 25%.

I lose maybe 10-20bhp at the wheels (FWD).
take it to a proper dyno, not one in the back of a shed. Any Dyno Dynamics one would probably do you well.
Rtech or DynoDaze in Hinkley will do runs for you.

Quick acceleration run - I'd say it feels every one of its '341.8 bhp' but I suppose the dyno never lies:

Goes alright wink

Have you tried a pull in 3rd from 50-90?

That figure isn't of much use without a number to deduct it from.

FWD losses are usually circa 15% btw.

My car (and another FWD) will consistently do about 10-15% drivetrain losses
For example if you do 210bhp it's about 190-195 at the wheels.

Where as a scooby or something doing 300bhp will only be putting down about 240, it's significantly more losses.

Will try and get one. 30-90 is around 7 secs which puts it in the same league as a C5 RS6!

It's around the same. Is yours a tuned Scirocco R? Impressive

Mine is a diesel :-)

I will do another video with the new tune and fuel pump when it's cold again, no point as it's just too hot at the moment.

Priorities have changed for now so will be putting the 500 bhp project on hold; need to save up for a house deposit.

Car been running great though, shockingly fast on b-road overtakes, all that torque in such a light saloon takes me by surprise!

In the meantime I will be carrying out minor mods, such as a front upper strut bar, refurbished wheels and front bumper.

Next major job will be a gearbox rebuild with LSD.

In other news, I'm training for a marathon at the moment. Here's a pic from after a recent run at my local country park!

That's a monster!

Garrett turbo? How much bhp/lb ft is it making? It goes like a TGV! Is the cruising mpg still good?

Mine has GTB2260 turbo, tubi manifold, and cp3 hpfp upgrade. I have about 40bhp more now than in that video.
I've gained 5-6mph on my 1/4 terminals now versus the tune on that vid - power is unknown at the moment, did a dyno to get a baseline and then made a ton more adjustments. Bigger injectors and ported head are next :-)

Shame you can't carry on due to house but sometimes it's nice to just enjoy it, usually once you start dicking about with big power things become unreliable and annoying lol

Nice, how much hp and torque are we talking now as an estimate? 300 ish and 400ish? Sciroccos don't weigh much either..

Cos of cylinder head restrictions and issue with maximum allowable rail pressure EGTs are issue.
So we have protection written into ECU.
Depending on the gear/engine bay temp/inlet temp it can be as high as 275/280. torque peak i've seen on dyno is 415ft lb but then protection factors pulled it back
lucky to have such a wonderful tuna (teehee) really.

i'm not too fussed with dyno figures it's how she goes on the road!

Agreed. So much low down torque makes fast progress so effortless. Have these mods affected the mpg much?

Looks like a Maha dyno, that just seems to be how they are - one I've used a few times always gives very low wheel figures, but flywheel is always very good - cars hitting bang on factory figures
Thanks for pointing this out, had a look at some more Maha dyno results and they do very consistently give low whp figures. Here's an E46 M3's results, only 231 whp:

Well that was an eventful week(end)!

Took the 9-5 to Santa Pod last Saturday (Run What Ya Brung), and managed 2 runs in the wet!

My best was a 14.6 at 95 mph against a BMW M2 that managed a 14.3 at 102 mph.

Video of the run (sorry my mate filmed it with a potato):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KYccM2pEOo

Considering an M2 can run a 12.7 at 113, I reckon a 13.5 is doable.

Only problem is, on the way home the gearbox lunched itself. I now only have 1st, a bit of 3rd and 5th remaining.

Can't afford a rebuilt gearbox at the moment so will have to wait, unless I can find a cheap way of fixing it.

Pod is a horrible strip. Very cruel.

Best to compare yourself to other cars there on the day smile

14.6 is still a good time!

Talk to Mick at TwoStrokeToTurbo. He will have a spare box you can buy for not much money. They break Saabs and stock the parts to sell to people like us. He's a top bloke and looks after mine. They know their Saabs.
