Saab 9-5 Aero - Hybrid Turbo and 9000 Bottom End - 350 bhp
Discussion
All great points. Your auto box should be pretty strong if under 500 NM and you do lots of cruising. First thing Karl advised me was to never floor it in 5th below 100 mph as it could strip the tiny 5th cog apart. It's become a habit now so I don't really think about it, bit of a pain though as at legal speeds I can only effectively floor it in 3rd and 4th!
HybridAero - did I see you changed your fuel pump to the Walbro225? Is it still holding together? I tried one of them from Neo's and it was useless - gave up after about 3 weeks of minimal usage which I hear is no an isolated complaint. Ran so weak that the engine management warning light was coming on at any incline or moderate throttle! I was only looking to overcome what now seems to be the sticking wastgate so am back to the stock pump from an early 9-5 (better fittings apparently). And this was after finding that the fuel pick-up pipe was too short so leaving me stranded at the side of the M4 with fuel still in the tank!!
Running a Walbro 255 LPH from Fuel Performance. No complaints here, was noisy at first but after further inspection it was due to a missing seal in the pump housing. Silent now!

yes and yes
the car was about 18k when we took it to St3 and the problem was immediate at that point. Karl has now seen a few other DE's that have this same issue and has been resolved by new hot side.
Its trying to call for about 550nm in at about 4000rpm in 4th but cuts! Only when hot though.

Stock air filter but with the Hirsch intake snorkel / trunking into the airbox
Now I have a Forge actuator (was supposed to have a yellow spring but given the preload required we think its got a green spring) but the cut was present with the old actuator (which subsequently failed leaving me showing 226ps on the dyno - not at all embarrassing!!).
I'm going to get the Kinuwaga 6cm housing to confirm the wastgate theory so at least there is a subtle upgrade there should it not be the issue.

After doing some reading around, I found that Autoglym have the best feedback for car shampoo (£14 delivered for 5 litres, eBay), Dirtbusters for snow foam (£20 for 10 litres, eBay) (used with a Karcher pressure washer and foam lance), and Bilberry for wheel spray cleaner (£26 for enough to last you a lifetime, included wheel brush which I haven't needed to use).
Loving the snow foam, works a treat. Nordic numberplate frames are now fitted to rear with pressed plates, and also wacked on a 'nevs' front badge. Next to do are respraying the new sharktooth bumper, black honeycombing the grille and also to finish it off, a rear nevs badge.
Snow foamed it all over, left for 10 min, rinsed, wheel foam applied, left for 5 min, rinses. Finally shampoo'd all over with Autoglym, then dried it off. Done!

Quick update:
Car has been spluttering at high revs under full throttle, and that's with half a tank of VPower. Also the engine warning light starts flickering.
Possible causes, according to UKSaabs, Noobtune and various Facebook groups:
- Wrong spark plugs: Currently I have Platinum PFR6H-10 plugs installed - I have been recommended NGK BCPR7ES instead as the Platinum ones have the wrong 'gapping' and can cause misfire in one cylinder.
- Karl from Noobtune said: "It's odd that you're getting an alternator light flickering, that would suggest a loose connection somewhere (which would affect signal voltages to and from the ECU). I would look at all the engine earths, the small signal earths at the end of the inlet manifold and thermostat housing. Also check the battery terminals, they must be 100% tight or that on its own can cause problems."
- Failed D.I. pack - This had a brand new genuine one only 4 months ago, so can probably rule that out.
- Failed fuel pump wiring - Had a brand new Walbro 255 LPH fitted only 6 months ago.
So no full throttle or high revs until this is sorted.
This weekend I will drop the car off and it will have the following:
- Installation of strut brace and new bolt (which I may have damaged the thread on when trying to remove myself, hence why I don't bother doing any of this myself, would rather leave to the experts)
- Spark plugs changing to different ones
- Oil and oil filter change
- Installation of sharktooth front bumper and black mesh grille
- Clean the cone air filter
- Check for boost leak (boost is dropping to 1.2 bar by redline; Karl at Noobtune says it should be holding to 1.5
- Check for loose connections in wiring/terminals etc.

Front bumper resprayed to 170 black!

Not sure whether to fit fog lights or intake pipes such as these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301071936863

Just ordered 2 x 70mm air inlets and 2m of 70mm ducting pipe to fit to the new front bumper, in place of where the fog lights used to go. Don't know whether the extra cold air will help the brakes, turbo and air intake at all but guess it's a future-proof modification for the possibility of a bigger turbo in the future.
Also, wiring up fog lights would be a bit of a faff.

Seen you're running a 9-5 as well, let's see some pics, done much work to it?
I only collected it yesterday! It's my second Aero but seems in much better nick than my previous. Bought as my ST is being handed back in a few weeks and I fancied running one as my main car (old estate was run alongside an MR2 Turbo) - hence the jump in (apparent) condition. They seem to get under your skin, these things.First and foremost is a stage one Noobtune and I'm on the lookout for another set of wheels as it's currently running winter tyres.

That's a really nice example, don't see many in that colour. Stage 1 is the best £80 you could ever spend on one of these; may be worth you replacing the APC valve while you're at it.
That's a new one to me, just having a google now. Annoyingly, I won't be driving her for a few weeks due to my insurance company's idea of "multi-car discount"Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
