Odd, I found the boot of the Focus disappointing.
Maybe you can lower the floor of the boot of the Golf?

I defintley agree on the 3 pot point though!

Which engine does the Golf have? They've recently brought out a new 1.0 TSI 115PS 3-cylinder in the UK, which I guess is the closest equivalent yet to the Ecoboost!

4 cyl 1.4L turbo with 105 HP (as best as I can tell)!

First real test for the Focus tomorrow, big family weekend away.... Which is when the XC90 was really in its element.

I hope everything fits in the boot!

Also filled it today, a genuine 40mpg tank smile
Thought the 1.4 came in 122 bhp flavour as a minimum. The 1.2 TSi is 105 BHP (though I think this year it gets a little kick to 110!)

Very nice! I just bought a 2014 Focus Titanium in Candy Red with the same engine. Should make a fun first car!

Good stuff, I really like the latest Focus, interesting to read some real life experiences.

That's a steal at £300 and they suit the car down to the ground

Good thread!

This generation of Focus is super economical in my experience:

Mine isnt! hehe

I ways find Ford's figures quite hard to achieve.

Those wheels look a lot better. The Titaniums can look quite dull but the wheels improve it. I always thought the Zetec S spec looks really good, maybe even better than the ST!

I know what you mean about the boot - on paper it isn't the biggest but it has a good shape - a lot of estates have a long but shallow boot. I find the Focus has good height with a lower floor and quite a high window line. Only the Octavia is better in this regard in my experience.

I hate those sensors. Our X5 has the same thing, and the receiver in the car failed. Many £ to fix so it bongs every time you shut down the engine. What an annoyance. Not to mention we paid extra for them in the first place!

Even then the ones which measure wheel speed aren't that much chop. Our Octavia has that system and by the time the car registered that it had a flat tyre, the sidewall was well and truly stuffed.

Not happy - as the car had 300km on it at that stage...!

At least the ABS systems dont require €220 odd worth of sensors in every wheel set though.... progress is sometimes anything but, I reckon.
Totally agree, a tyre fitter managed to break two of the tyre sensors on my parents Renault Scenic when it had new tyres fitted. As new ones have to be coded to the car and you can only do this with the Renault diagnostic computer this caused a few headaches. Especially as the tyres were fitted for the MOT which it instantly failed due to warning lights on the dash.

Absolutely stupid things.

Warranty is nearly up already?!

My Focus will be 3 at the end of Feb so I've got a few months until it expires.

Glad to hear it's doing well though, I love my EcoBoost too.

That boot box thingy may be practical but it's hideous, looks like you're travelling around with a BBQ stuck to the back of your car.

Love reading your updates though.

We have a clubman on a very short lease in that same ridiculous colour as a family car. It's an auto diesel and I should hate it, but in truth it's a nice car to own.. however, I do still have my fiesta zetec s 140 (1.0) and that's still brilliant!

We swapped my wife's R56 for a Clubman in September. It's quite a marmite car but we're very pleased with it. I'm 6'1" and you can still seat an adult behind me when I'm driving. The boot isn't massive but it's big by Mini standards - have you spotted the more upright setting on the rear seats that gives you a bit more boot room for tall bulky stuff?

We went for a lightly used ex-BMW car, manual and petrol with almost every option added. A £30k+ car in the UK when new! eek

Its very, very nice to drive isnt it?

All the touch points are leagues ahead of the Focus. BMW certainly know how to make a decent cabin.

To be fair, the MINI is a more expensive car. Specced to the same level as our Focus, the MINI is a €41k car, compared to the €33k of the Focus.

I suspect id quite like the Cooper D, but it doesnt make sense for us here in NL, so it will definitely be a petrol model if we get one.
I'm intrigued by the change, I must say.

I've been so undecided about next car change, and have specced loads of different cars, including a new JCW Clubman - with loads of toys (excl. full leather and pano roof) - and it was "only" €45k in Lux. That said, that's the cost of 2 new ST200 Fiesta's!!
Is a JCW Clubman twice the car? I suspect not. I think they're nice though.

It's 'Lapisluxury Blue' a solid paint colour that's an £800 option spin. If I was configuring from scratch I think I'd struggle to justify the extra over the dark metallic blue that's only a £500 option, they look quite similar to my eyes!

The tech pack is good, although the phone/app connection can be a bit of a faff at the start of every journey. You have to plug it in and open two different apps that don't always seem to connect correctly the first time, they also log out frequently. Once working the Spotify integration works well, with or without a premium account.

Our car has variable dampers, there's a noticeable difference in suspension stiffness between driving modes and it seems to stay really level when cornering hard. We only briefly drove one car without them though, so I'm not sure if it's ultimately an option worth adding.

Those 5 door Mini's and Clubmans look comically stretched.

If you like pointless stats the Connected app is quite good. Each journey is logged:

If you've driven the same route more than once then it compares things like speed/time/economy against previous efforts:
