An Eclectic Collection
Discussion
Just thought I'd pop up a post with some pictures of my cars. They're a pretty random bunch but there's method in the madness....kind of.
First of all is this, my 2005 Saab 9-3 wagon. It's the 150bhp 1.9tdi Vector model which cost me a grand total of £1,200! The car has 136k on the clock but also returns 55-60mpg on a run and drives brilliantly, as a work horse I can't complain -
Next up we have my 2006 RenaultSport Megane 225. I have owned this from new and it's become one of those cars that I'll end up keeping forever. It has only done a little over 3,000 miles so there's not much point selling it and I have a space to keep it stored.
Next is my 2010 RenaultSport Twingo 133 Gordini, again I purchased this new as I had a real soft sport for the little Twingos especially the Gordini. Although the Gordini brand was a trim spec rather than performance I liked the old school fun of the RS Twingo but with a few nice interior touches.
Finally, this is the car I bought in August last year. It is a 2007 Mercedes CLS63 AMG, so has a 6.2ltr V8 and only 17,500 miles on the clock.
There you go, a bit of a random collection of cars but each serves a purpose to me from comfort and efficiency to lightweight hot hatch fun.

How have you only managed 3k in your Megane?
Well I bought it as a weekend car anyway, I moved out about 6 months later so had dry storage so it became a fair weather car. Then due to personal circumstances I wasn't in a position to spend time getting out to to use it so I kept it stored. Reliability wise I also ran another Megane 225 but this time a Trophy as my daily car for 18 months. Had a couple of small niggles with it but it was fundamentally a sound car and never felt fragile.
It's funny as I've always owned cars that divide opinion, the Marmite of cars and there is an appeal in that.
But, the AMG is a car that every petrolhead I know had gone, 'That's a cool car'. I guess the appeal for me is not just the power, comfort but the discrete looks. Yes it has a four tail pipes and some AMG badges but to the average person it's just a big Merc. It just so happens to have 500bhp!

Thought I'd pop a quick update in this thread.
The Saab has now been sold, had a very nice couple drive 180 odd miles from Devon to come and collect it. I actually couldn't fault the car, it was a nice drive and very practical. My main reason for the change was to replace it with an auto and ideally a Merc.
So goodbye 9-3....
...and hello 2003 Mercedes E320 CDI (W211) Avantgarde. This example has 103k on the clock so has averaged a pretty low mileage in it's 13 year life. It's a very tidy example, rust free (although keeping an eye on those arches!) and only has a few normal blemishes to sort out in time. So far I have had the wheels re-painted and given the outside a quick polish and couple of coats of wax (Collinite 845 for those interested)
Thoroughly impressed with the engine in this thing, masses of torque and actually shifts very well off the line as well. At a steady 70mph it returns a 48-50+mpg so happy with that.
Interior looks fantastic of it's age as well.
Everything in the car is working well, except the CD player makes some odd noises yet works fine. Will be keeping an eye on that and maybe opting for a replacement unit at some point. Ideally an OEM model. I would like to swap out the side light bulbs as next to the Xenons they look very yellow, so some white LEDs on order just so they match.
Bit of beading for the Detailing geeks out there.
Lastly just a few shots of the CLS after a clean and at least whilst the sun was out.

Family had an 05 (OY05 PYL that ended up being sold to a lovely African man for export) E320 CDI and over the six year we had it we managed to rack up circa 180k miles (iirc). Parents and all the kids drove it everywhere, from weeknds away, to ferrying my drunk mates from houseparty to houseparty, to horse shows, alps. Great car, faultless.
Enjoy it!

Thanks mate, I must say I am pleased to bits with the car. It feels like a car half it's age in terms of comfort, features and driving. Plus the engine is fantastic. It may be a fairly common car but I get in day to day and genuinely enjoy being in it. Enjoy it!
Also it's nice to do bits and pieces to make the car mint. So, had the wheels re-painted so no corrosion or kerb marks on those now. Pressed plates fitted and some LED sidelights so they match up with the Xenons.
The only niggle I have with the car is that the head unit is problematic, the CD drive ticks like it's trying to eject the CD when you first insert it and often gives an error. Not sure whether to go for an aftermarket unit or find an OEM one.

On the LED front, what have you ordered and where from (if you don't mind me asking)?
Not at all mate, I took a punt on a set of 'non error' LED bulbs and it seems they are not giving me an error. First time I fired the car up they did, so I just assumed the resistance wasn't right but car has been fired up a few times since and so far so good. This is how the OEM bulbs looked by comparison
These were the actual bulbs I ordered

I'd like to replace the puddle lights in the wing mirrors too so at least the outside lights are all properly white. Well all except the fog lights but for the amount of use they get I'm not sure it's worth the faffing about haha.
