I'm even more impressed by your SMX now I know it was originally designed as a shaggin-wagon!

I recently went to Japan on a snow holiday. We hired the big brother of yours, the Honda Stepwgn for a few days and I took a bunch of pics of other Japanese van things if you're interested:

I love this. Seriously, what a cool car. I love JDM cars and love how different and unique and quirky this is.

All the people on this thread slating it must have really boring lives - this is awesome, big props to you!

I want one biggrin Can your friend import me one?

Also: What does 'baller' mean? I hear a lot of young 20-something's round here with sleeve tattoos, fuzzy beards, dodgey specs and skinny jeans using that term all the time, and no idea what the hell it's supposed to mean!
To be honest I'm none the wiser. I was a little drunk (spot a theme? hehe) when I started the thread and in my head it was funny.

Cheers for that, we're potentially planning a Japan trip later in the year so that's pretty useful, how did you go about hiring the van and were there any restrictions?

I think I'd of loved a job with Honda Japans marketing department back in 2001!

Baller - As in Basketballer. Its just a catch all term to mean anyone who's done well out of hip hop or basketball. Or football. Or any of the ball games.

It's getting on a bit now. They've been using it for 20 years at least.

It's now used by people who drive 8 year old bmws with chrome wraps, who have got it into their head that everyone assumes they play in the NBA.

Do it thumbup - driving in Japan was pretty easy in the end and gave us heaps more flexibility. We booked through a local comparison website http://www2.tocoo.jp/en. They had a special on where they guaranteed 4x4 and snow tyres for no extra fee, unlike going direct with most of the hire companies. You will need an "International Drivers Permit" though!

I would also recommend hiring a WiFi dongle to use with Google maps for navigation and general Internet goodness. Roaming charges are really expensive, free WiFi is hard to find and navigation in the car may not be available in English or you will have to spell the location in Japanese to get the directions. We rented with these guys and they send it to your hotel with a reply-paid envelope you can post at the airport as you leave:

SO to answer a few peoples questions about fuel economy I've done a little fill up to fill up test. For some reason this seems to be everybody's first question about the little Honda (well maybe second behind what the fks that? hehe) Anyway it's worth pointing out that my commute is across Edinburgh at rush hour, so the car rarely exceeds 30mph and is in constant stop start traffic, so dare I say if you were out of town you should see better results. However I was actually pretty impressed, the little thing got 32mpg over 200 miles of dawdling around town. Happy with that.

So, like the rest of the internet I've been suckered in by the prospect of a cheap Golf R lease deal. I've stuck a quick ad up for the SMX online to see if there's anyone as stupid as me who fancies it hehe

If not I'll just keep it, it's a bit of an impulse decision but we'll see what happens. I'll not post a link on here because I don't want to break any PH rules. However PM me if you can't find it.

So, unfortunately this is the end of the tale of my SMX. It was collected this afternoon by a chap from Inverness. Couldn't of possibly asked for a better bloke to deal with. I'll finish up by posting the last job I did to get the car ready for sale; tidying up the brake calipers:

To be honest by the time I got the car sold the deal was finished. In reality it was probably for the best, I imagine the novelty would of washed off fairly quickly.

hehe In fairness I was convinced it was going to take months to sell, purely because I thought it'd be such a tiny market, but like I say there was a man at my door with the asking price within 24 hours so how wrong was I!

It ended up working perfectly in the end, the car went to a great home and I've quickly managed to move onto another dream car of mine to tick of the ever growing list...
