I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd check what WBAC would offer for this as a non runner with 'lightly soiled' seats laugh

£190! eek.
Take it round there, to be greeted with "Oh, this one again..."
laugh

Lightly soiled would be a dream compared to this

Plugs from GSF are wrong, suspect the leads aren't 100% either.

However, fitted the leads and the old plugs and it started up with another struggle but wouldn't idle properly. Cleaned up the throttle body in the parts washer and it now starts easily but again, crap idle.

Suspect the idle stepper motor on the throttle body has had it - but it's a built in non removable part as far as I can see

Compression test was fine - little bit lower on 1 but nothing out of the ordinary for a 180k mile engine

Please get this running, ignore the people saying to scrap it. Surely it's a museum piece given that its reached 180k? Or at least, it can go in your own personal museum of woe.
thumbup

Excellent - the challenge has to be to get it past 200k.
thumbup - challenge at the moment is to get it past 181k hehe

Throttle body will be here in a day or two - actually getting a complete inlet manifold with throttle so I'll have a spare manifold on the shelf which can't hurt

Might remove those seats tonight and begin that battle

Back seat action

Most bolted down rear seat I've ever seen with 2 at the front and 3 at the rear just holding down that bench bottom bit

Pretty disgusted by the fact someone clearly carted children around in this car - there's crayons under the seats and such

First step while the seats are out - steam clean the dashboard. Not the best photo but it was covered in the filth on the right / top of this wrong way round photo

is there much more work to getting the carpets up? they come up a treat with some degreaser and a good jet washing , then hang up to dry , worth the extra hassle if you can

should make it smell fresh too
Don't think it'd be a huge effort but I'd worry about the amount of time they'd take to dry at this time of year

Detailing fanatics that are likely to be offended by dirty trade valeting look away now!

Hit half of the rear seat with my usual treatment for lightly soiled interiors - diluted Flash floor cleaner scrubbed and then sucked/rinsed out with my George carpet cleaner

Needs something stronger (like unleaded and a match) but it's some improvement!!

Doing 20+k miles a year in a car so filthy inside amazes me tbh - I'd hate to see their house...

I don't think it starts yet, does it? Therefore carpet drying is the least of the OP's worries hehe
Starts fine just has a messed up idle

Now the mildly famous rear seat looks like this:

Far from perfect up close but it needs to dry and is almost acceptably usable

That can't be the same seat. I don't believe it.
Just shows what can be done with a bit of chemical and elbow grease

It's still a bit stained up close but it's not a health hazard any more

Why am I drawn to these threads, rather than supercars and turbos nutter machines ?............... very weird LOL
laugh I know what you mean. I want to buy a snotter panda now tongue out
The last thing the OP will want to do is point any purchaser to this thread, but I really want to know what happens to the car now....
No worries about that - it'll be pressed into service as a loan car / general spare runaround providing it all goes well smile

Hate to see the colour of the water that came off that back seat.
I'll post a bucket shot from the other seats for you perverts - to be honest though it's not hugely different to how the water looks from lightly soiled seats!!

You must love punishment, this and a 300k A6...

BTW, how's the A6 going?
I'm certain it's issues were related to the cat being blocked - need to refit it and repair the exhaust where I had to chop the downpipe to get it out

It is amazing - I've never used the actual carpet cleaning head but for upholstery it's worth it's weight in gold.
