P5B, that's a great collection pics...especially the last two of the gorgeous Daimler Coupe.

Right you lot, stop it! And that includes you, BV72. Have just wasted a whole evening wafting through the online ads looking at XJ6's, Daimlers and 2 door Coupes. I grew up with XJ6's during the 1970's and early 1980's, they were a family favourite. Have fond memories of motoring along with Abba and Queen being played on the 8track...and now I find myself wanting one, to the extent have called my mother this evening asking her to scan and email pics of the one that sticks in my mind. It was a 1976 4.2 XJ6 with vinyl roof. Haven't a clue of the reg# but would be fun to see if it still exists. Talks to self, "Don't buy another car", "Yes, buy an XJ6C", "Don't buy another car", "Yes, buy a 4.2 Daimler..." You lot are going to get me in to trouble...
I really wouldn't go along the XJ6C route v8250. Far too sensible... has to be the V12 jester

I do like the looks of the Coupe versions of the XJ6, but for the time being will settle for a Saloon. I know that the Daimler version is a bit more la di da, even with keep fit windows, but at least now I can pretend that I am not Two Jags.

I have gone ahead and bought a refurbed AED, and will see how I get on with that for a while.

I'm glad that this thread about a quite scabby old car has inspired others with Jaglove!

Yes, the V12 is a splendid thing but I have a soft spot for the XJ engine, having rebuilt a good number of them and tinkered [read rebuilt] a number of MKII's. The six is simply a great leggy torque filled wonder bus of a unit. Highly tuneable, super strong and combined with SU's provides years of weekend tinkering fun.

Yes, you have inspired much groovy Jaglove...and I like the fact yours has keep fit windows. I can not remember the last time I saw an XJ6 [Jaguar or Daimler] with wind up windows. Re' the AED, if the replacement one plays up Burlen Fuels has an upgraded AED unit that's much more reliable, or, as others have said, a simple conversion to choke and cable is an easy modification. For good AED reading, see here

This ad seems appropriately 'of the moment' here.

Only one pic, but great colour and worth the asking for the 'arse' plate alone.

Very eloquently put sir. I look forward to following the thread on your XJ6 / Daimler once you've tracked one down, can only be a matter of time, surely?!

I think these recent Jaguar / Daimler threads have caused a number of itches that desperately need scratching biggrin

Does anyone know how to deal with this, it drives me nuts. My XJC has a series 3 switch and motor so there isnt a park setting and they just stop where they like. Is there an aftermarket solution to get rid of the crap once and for all?

The Jaglove has been poking away at me for years now, I've been close to scratching the itch several times in the ten years I've been buying Rovers instead, I wish I'd done it sooner. These threads do have a habit of turning stones over unearthing much wantage in those who dare to post!

No doubt at some point on your travels, some bright spark will come along, take one look at your crinkly grlle and the wide pleats on your seat cushions and spout forth "ah, but you see, it's not a Jaguar...". Ignore them BV, it's a fine old barge worthy of Sir Bill himself.

If that's as good in the flesh is the description says, it looks a bargain...

That's what I thought. Odd that there are no interior pics though.

It's my birthday tomorrow - I'm tempted by a gift-to-self!

Some ads are like that on that site, the vendor comes across as a gentleman of a certain age who may not be a silver surfer just yet. Definitely worth a look I'd say. I've used the site twice to sell cars and made a point of adding six good photographs, in both cases the cars sold to the first people who came to view them.

God I can't stop looking at Jags and Daimlers now... never satisfied are we?!!

I'm the same - I'm actually searching for an XJS but have become distracted.

I think the type of seller you've described is this chap to a tee:

Remove the leaper, do the fuel tank and sort the headlining, then join all the other cool dudes on this thread. The colour is sublime.

It's like a disease isn't it? That is rather nice, I love the colour, it looks slightly richer than Rover's Tobacco Leaf shade.

I think Series XJs are one of the few cars which are able to carry off the more lurid colour schemes, they have that magical mix of menace, pub landlord and elegance off to a tee, and there aren't that many cars which look good in any shade of green or brown...

^^^ from a styling point of view the 'pinched' boat like rear end was a stroke of genius^^^

While I've got the photobucket account open, here's what I think could be the earliest use of an XJ in a Brit gangster flick, with Joss Ackland doing the honours in 'Villain', shot in the Summer of 1970...

(The same P5B Coupe 'HOX 802H' was later used in an episode of 'The Persuaders').

Yes, there are three ways of sorting this. 1, adjust the wiper mechanism to shut off at end of wiper stroke. 2, if wiper end stroke/park is constant reposition wipers on the wiper splines for perfect park. 3, use the old Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag specialist driver technique of turning off the wiper switch at end of wiper stroke so the wipers park correctly...it takes a little while to master the art but once timing is found you'll find it becomes second nature. Have had this on a number of cars including the old Daimler.

Ive just put my 2.8 on a laid up policy with an agreed value, I know its very loose figure wise but 'How many left' are showing 9 2.8 auto Jags sorned and taxed at Q3 2015, Daimler 2.8's auto's are showing 8 eek Most were most probably upgraded to 4.2 when the 2.8's pistons holed! Mine should have the uprated pistons that Jag fitted on later ones but it didnt seem to sort the problem, Metallic ash deposits on the piston crowns due apparently to pottering about at low rpm and the dwell time of the pistons, A good hammering keeps them clean, Funny that the 2.4 engine in the MK2 did'nt suffer the same problem as it has the same stroke as the 2.8? Sorry to keep hi jacking your thread BV but i'm not going to be doing a lot to mine anytime soon so seems a bit pointless opening a new thread with 1 post about the car, I just like chatting and seeing S1 stuff smile

How many left is rubbish. Apparently there is only 1 XJ6C left and no XJ12C. That is complete rubbish
