While I've got the photobucket account open, here's what I think could be the earliest use of an XJ in a Brit gangster flick, with Joss Ackland doing the honours in 'Villain', shot in the Summer of 1970...

(The same P5B Coupe 'HOX 802H' was later used in an episode of 'The Persuaders').

The records held by DVLA are notable mainly for how ropey they are; they're probably recorded as Jaguar Coupes or even just 2 door saloons.

No worries, S1 numbers do seem decimated compared to other Jags, I think Mk2's have survived in far greater numbers? Dont get me started on MK2's....biggrin

Beautiful V12. Still 'pottering' about, 61k miles at last MOT in July.
Bearing in mind that it was her personal car that she drove herself, I'm surprised it's even as much as that. I guess a lot of that mileage would have been getting it to wherever she wanted to use it
C&SC mag nabbed it for a shoot last year, alongside Sir William Lyons' S1 4.2...

How Many Left show the following numbers, combined taxed+SORN

XJ 2.8 - 124
XJ 2.8 Auto - 9
XJ6 4.2 - 327
XJ6 4.2 Auto - 524
XJ6 4.2L - 52
XJ6 4.2L Auto - 226
XJC 4.2 - 31
XJC 4.2 Auto - 238
XJ6C - 2

And for BV

Daimler 4.2 Auto - 68
Daimler 4.2 Sovereign - 114
Daimler 4.2 Sovereign Auto - 141

Compared to the MKII and 240/340's some of the original XJ's may be getting quite rare...

MKII - 708
MKII 3.8 - 622
2.4/240 - 945
240 Auto - 23
3.4/340 - 951

Seeing as the XJ6 figures most probably include S2 (XJ6L) i might actually be rightish about something!...cool They also show Daimler 2.8's as 8 left.

I wonder how accurate those figures are v8250... I thought there'd be more XJ 4.2s than that, especially autos. From what I gather only around 10% of all XJs were manual, possible less.

Another S1 gets some abuse courtesy of the Flying Squad... the obligatory blag scene filmed at Southall Gasworks, 1976...

Dad had one of these way before I was born in the mid 70's. I showed him this thread asking if his was the same and he wrote:

Certainly was and, it was in darkish green and because it was the Daimler it had the crinkly topped rad grille. Other than the grille and a few decals it was pretty much the same as the Jaguar as far as I recall.

Only one pic, but great colour and worth the asking for the 'arse' plate alone.
Now on ebay with more pics..smile

Sold.

I mailed the seller yesterday, and he sent some more photos, including some of those in the ebay ad. He said he had someone viewing today but would let me know if they didn't buy it; looks like I'm out of luck.

I'll say! I'm currently all over ebay and carandclassic.com looking at '70s Jags, Daimlers, Rovers, Triumphs and Fords, it's an awful job but someone has to do it. Prices are on the rise or so it seems... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C664562

I'm supposed to be engaged in decorating and cleaning up cat litter, but trawling the web and daydreaming is far more satisfying.

I'm supposed to be looking for an XJS, but these old things have really got under my skin. I'm off work today and have been similarly researching/wasting my time.

I still think that you should check out that XJS convertible in Postcombe, CDG. Could be a money maker.

BV - I do plan to, but have not yet phoned the chap. It sounds as though it will be worth a look.
