I am loving all these pics and anecdotes. Please keep them coming!

As for what I do with MOTs, tax and so on, it's a pain, but somehow it gets done. I have all the old heaps on a very cheap group policy with the excellent Classic Line Insurance. The 2002 Bimmer is on a boggo policy with Chaucer. I need a big shed to put the sheds in.

I want to get both fuel tanks, fuel gauge and rev counter working. The heater - meh. I am thinking of refitting a refurbed AED and seeing how it goes. Opinions as to the AED vary, I gather. Some say that it is the work of Beelzebub and some saying that it is OK if set up correctly.

The full roster of regret is now as follows -

1973 Daimler Sovereign Series One 4.2
1975 Triumph Dolomite Sprint
1976 Land Rover Series 3 88
1977 Yamaha FS 1e
1983 Rover 2600 SE
1984 Lotus Excel
1990 BMW 525i SE (for sale)
1992 Jaguar XJS 4.0
2002 BMW 530i SE
Is the 525 any good?

How much?
I think it's good. It's this one -

Say £1500.

I do like the looks of the Coupe versions of the XJ6, but for the time being will settle for a Saloon. I know that the Daimler version is a bit more la di da, even with keep fit windows, but at least now I can pretend that I am not Two Jags.

I have gone ahead and bought a refurbed AED, and will see how I get on with that for a while.

I'm glad that this thread about a quite scabby old car has inspired others with Jaglove!

I still think that you should check out that XJS convertible in Postcombe, CDG. Could be a money maker.

This one is a Coupe, but also a rustbucket and it is already bid up to above what I paid for my scruffy but roadworthy Daimler, so I am well chuffed.

It looks even more spivtastical in white.

Compare and contrast -

PS: I like the steelies. Alloys might suit a Jaaaaaaag, but the Daimler should be more sedate.

Given that Mr Woodley of London SW7 seems to have specified a Stereo 8 and a Webasto from new, but didn't specify lecky windows or wing/door mirrors, it's not clear if this is partial pov spec, or if he didn't hold with those aspects of new fangledness.

I have already committed egregious acts of rattle cannage with white spray-on Hammerite. I may ask my local body shop to patch, fill and do a blow over. The white on the car may be Ford Transit white rather than the Old English variety that the yarmouth should have. This probably dates from some resto work done in the nineties or noughties.

After discussion with my mechanic, I have opted to go for the manual choke option. He will also check out the non functioning gauges, heater etc.

Anyone remember singer Clodagh Rogers? Apparently she treated herself to an XJ on her 23rd birthday...

Great boots. She was a big thing in Ireland, but wasn't the glammest of popster chicks of those days.

Not XJs, but a couple of 60s Jags, a Mark 1 Tranny, and a Lotus Europa Special mixing it up in this chase sequence from a bonkers 70s heist movie called "Eleven Harrowhouse". Bonus Trevor Howard in a roll neck jumper action.

As the consensus is that an AED is as much use as a one legged man at an arse kicking contest, manual choke conversion going on asap.

Someone's nicked his wipers too. Is AED the Sunday name for an autochoke?
AED is the name of the enrichment device foolishly fitted by Jaguar. It is more than just a choke. It's a small carburettor that sits in between the two main ones. It is regarded by many as a bad thing that can cause fuel wastage and harm the engine.

More Shagtastic Jag action - tomorrow morning I have to get up early, go to Dorking (hellz yeah, rock and roll!) and collect my XJS, which should now have new rear arches and a new front wing and other bits. Probably all different colours, so well rat innit.
