I like biscuit! Dark paint with pale interiors are my faves. I don't usually like white cars or black interiors, but have made an exception for this heap.

Breadvan72, I'm torn between which sounds best the XK or the 6 cylinder Triumph.

How does the XK compare in sound to the AJ16 in your XJS or the lump in the SD1?
The Rover (which has an engine designed by Triumph) sounds best, I think, or at least it does from inside the car. The XJS (AJ6, not AJ16) sounds a bit meh, I think. The twin stainless steel pipes on the Sovereign make it sound good.

I actually like S1's in light/Pastely colours like white, Powder blue (My fav) and even the Fern grey that this one is, Dont like em in dark shades. Restored a 'ziebarted' from new regency red 4.2 Manual S1 about 25 yrs ago, Wish i had got hold of this one then, Needs a fraction of the welding that the 4.2 had smile BTW yours looks far from a heap.

Hijack very welcome! Your lovely car deserves a thread of its own. Your interior is in better nick than mine, although mine may improve with just a moderate about of loving.

I have been on eBay buying 8 track cassettes (Bowie, Motown, Deep Purple, T Rex, Elton John, and some classical). The car came with an odd collection including Christian pop and Max Boyce comedy reels.

I think, although I am not sure, that the LWB version only came in with the Series 2. I prefer the SWB too - the later XJs (which adopted the LWB as standard) seem too long to me.

I didn't know that. I suppose that's why the rear door glass in the Pininfarina tweaked Series 3 may look a bit long?

LWB started as a variant but ended up killing off the SWB, although when that happened I am not sure.

The colour palette of these cars really is wonderful. You just don't see that variety - externally and internally - anymore, and that's a real pity.

Some very nice cars posted chaps - good work!

Nerd alert - just had a quick shuftie in Mr.Thorley's 'Original XJ...' book, total number of LWB S1 cars is 2,365, made up of Jag and Daimler six and twelve cylinder models. BV, your Daimler S1 is one of 11,522 SWB 4.2s built.

Here's my biscuit interior, all three shades of it! This is one of the advert pics, I've cleaned it up a bit since then but I still wish it was red or black, main reasons for buying it are that it's a very early S2 manual and has a good history...

Found these early S1 ads recently, thought I'd bung them on here...

S1 getting a bit lairy with hardman John Bindon at the wheel, from a 1973 episode of Special Branch, the same car was used in the first episode of The Sweeney by Brian Blessed and Ian Hendry... you're in good company BV...

^^^^^ Loving this thread biggrin As far as i know the Jaguar 2.8's were SWB only, LWB was only offered on the 4.2, Not sure if that applied to the Daimlers? I love the aquamarine coloured S1 above, Have to look that paint code up, Very rare if original, I also like heather pink..hippy

Noice, I had an early S2 years ago which had an 8 track, Seemed to remember it sounded half decent, Good to waft with a bit of Bowie or Motown!

The Series 1 interior definitely looks 60s, and the Series 2 interior looks much more 70s, and to some extent presages the look of the early XJS (albeit that the XJS radically departed from Jag tradition by excluding wood).

The interior of my car is a bit darker than I'd like, but the headlining is pale grey, and the leather and wood and other trim should brighten up with a bit of cleaning. The original Webasto was white, judging by photos in the file, but a black one was fitted a couple of years ago.
