That interior... it'd be like slipping into a vat of caramel. In a nice way.

Seems too cheap to me.

Is it kosher?

Either sold or advert pulled.
The only way that could have been better was if it was a Jaguar.
The Daimler grille doesn't look right on the S1 XJ to me.
Stunning colour. Same as my Dads old S3 E Type.

I agree about the Daimler grille. I never really understood the Daimler versions. It was all cosmetic so not like they were getting anything much more.

I emailed Pilkington glass classic division with a cheeky ask.... as you make the heated windscreens for current JLR cars is it possible for you to add the technology to a series 2 classic screen?

The answer....

Yes sir £350 plus VAT and 8 weeks lead time!!

Wow need to have a think about how to wire it up

Yes, I am wondering if it's a mistake and the person answering is thinking rear screen. I am investigating!

That is brilliant and a far better price than I would have thought. Given the amazing work on the rest of this build, wiring it in should be a piece of cake. This does lead to the question, are you keeping period switches or going for something a little more modern?

Yes I was expecting a no or a number one infront of that figure!

The big plastic crap switches are going and I will be sourcing alluminium look push switches to match the more modern air vents. Need to work out how many I need and they can sit under the double din screen.

I am having difficulty finding alluminium look window switches though!

Don't forget the kind of current these modern Ford-quickclear-style screens draw. It's bloody huge. Serious wiring required, and a beefy alternator.

I think you spoke to a numpty. My dad replaced his XJ heated screen a couple of years ago and the part cost alone was £630 and that's a production part.

To custom make one would be well over £1000 I'd wager.

That style of switch is saying 'Marine application' to me.

Perhaps someone like ASAP supplies in Beccles or one of the American market specialists could help you as big amperage is often a requirement there & it's surprising how tactile & pleasing to the eye some switchgear is these days.

Project looks to be coming along well, il pretend I don't understand budgets! & I wonder if you saw the pictures under the ad for that Mauve XJ of the Coupe with a 'Modern' take?

OK so the car is going into paint in March when the new facility is built and they have thrown the cat amongst the pigeons a bit. Those of you following this thread early on will know that I was debating the colour and was looking for a really dark purple black kind of colour before settling on a conservative obsidian black. Well the new facility will be able to do Kandy paints and they sent me a link to the manufacturer. Lots of very dark purple blacks........ aarrgghhh decisions decisions.... if i went that route I would do the interior in ivory and black.....

Any dark black purple colours that you think would suit?

Just kicking around ideas....

If you like the idea of a dark purple (and I think that would suit your build very well) I'd go with this one:

I think a purple black would be great, however if you want it OEM, then Black Cherry (PEH) is a fantastic colour:
