For what it's worth Craig, each time I come back to the thread, either to catch up or throw in a line or two, I'm always enthused by the project again and again, with the added bonus that the same enthusiasm tips over and back into my own cars / thoughts / ideas, for which many thanks.
Thanks mate for the kind words. I have to say I'm amazed at the interest the car is getting on here and on facebook. If this car doesn't ruin me I would like to do a resto-mod on a 420G or a MK9 but I also have a hankering to get an early 50s US pickup and paint it bright purple and put an LS3 v8 in it hehe
I think Rowan Atkinson has a heavily modified Mk9 road / race car. Used to see the odd one or two still knocking about round Hammersmith on family visits well into the '70s, grand old things with more than a hint of spiv about them.

Pity about those wheels you looked at, this will be a key decision now, the wrong choice of wheels can easily upset the whole visual balance of the car. I still favour Kents or chromed steels, but I do think the car will need something 'extra' with the wheels.

I'm highly pleasantly surprised at the availability of these at attractive prices. What current do they say it draws?

Yeah when I saw them on a couple of Cobras yesterday I just didn't think they looked right.

I am considering a stop gap solution. The fitment on the current wheels are wrong so they look odd so I was thinking a set of these -

Spray the centre black to match the car so they look like this and even utilise the Arden graphics to hide the brand and you get this -

Which was pretty much the inspiration from the start

I like those wheels a lot, but imo the Hex bolts against the black centre look too fussy, especially as you're junking some of the original chrome. They would be spot on with black centres without the bolts though.

Those wheels are £500 and I can use my current tyres whereas the Hallibrands were going to be 2k so would be a cheap way of getting correct offset and PDC wheels on it that I know will look alright.

From that selection I'd go with VF503, VN47 or VN501.
