Craig, quick question mate - saw the pic of your engine bay on BV's Daimler thread. Now, thinking back to my Jaaag owning days, I seem to recall that on both the XJ saloons & XJS the battery had its own compartment / surround which had a cooling fan built into it? Is this something that may have been removed from your Coupe at some point?

I think so. Battery is just completely exposed

OK boys and girls the car is going to be metallic black which will necessitate all the chrome being redone to look good. I am looking at what to do with the grille. As you can see from the pic at the start a previous owner has fitted a series 3 grille with the bars removed and mesh fitted.

I want a similar look but for it to look much more well done. So my questions are -

Can you buy a "mesh" that is actually plastic so it won't go grim like this metal stuff has?
The jaguar badge at the top is gold is there a way of recolouring them properly in silver?
What do you think to a V12 badge? I would also want to recolour it silver if possible because again they are gold

Looking to do something like this....

I might just be getting old, but my recollection is that the badges were always gold. My Dad had a few in the Seventies and I'm sure that they were gold, even on the Daimler.

Yeah they were. I'm wondering if somewhere would be able to alter them because I think gold makes them look dated

Maybe one of the graphics companies could make up some 'gel' badges. DMB seem to get good reviews

OK I have decided on my final spec and work will start at the end of May but I may have to prioritise some of it and do some next year to stop costs spiraling out of control. Major concern is if they find any horrors under the paint when they take it back to bare metal!

Exterior

  • Mercedes Obsidian Metallic black Paint with the leaper and vinyl roof removed
  • Modify bumpers to make them single piece and get rid of over riders completely
  • Re-chrome all exterior chrome
  • New mesh in the grilles and a red jaguar centre badge instead of the traditional top badge
  • New replacement racing mirrors
  • Air vent under window in body colour
  • Remove door locks and radio antenna
  • Modern wing badges
  • 17 inch Hallibrand wheels with modern red growler centres
Interior

  • Red diamond quilted leather seats and door cards with black leather upper doors, console and dash. Black stitching on the red leather, black carpets
  • Piano black veneer
  • Piano black steering wheel and gear knob
  • Off white replacement instruments with modern looking warning light cluster
  • Chrome round air vents with clock between two centre ones
  • Metal pedals and footrest
  • Bespoke sill plates with black lettering
  • Cup holders to replace ashtrays in centre console

Technology

  • Dynomat soundproofing throughout
  • Tyre pressure monitoring
  • Bespoke made xenon headlights (no need for washers and levellers as historic vehicle)
  • Cruise control
  • Air conditioning
  • Auto dip interior mirror with universal remote
  • Heated seats
  • Rear electric sunblind
  • Remote central locking
  • Keyless start
  • Mood lighting
  • Alpine ilx700 Car Play double din unit, JL speaker, amp and sub package
  • Reversing camera
  • Alarm and tracker with global closing and remote boot opening

Absolutely. It's enough to make the hair on your lungs stand up just thinking about it...

Work starts next week with a complete strip down and back to bare metal. Hope we don't find anything nasty

I have an idea for a new grille....

Take a series 3 grille and remove everything including the badge holder and the centre bar and then rechrome it and fit new mesh welding a modern Jaguar badge in the centre....

I am also going to fit a set of bespoke xenon headlights to the front. That gives me the opportunity if I wish to remove the indicators from below the bumper and have them set into the outer headlights. Opinions?

I like the grille. I'd keep the indicators looking slightly more original I think.

Ill update it as the work gets done. Starts with all the dull stuff of back to bare metal though and I am hoping there are no horrors!

I'd love one of these too. If it were mine, I'd only change the wheels and ditch the nose piercing.

But I've not seen it in the flesh, and you really need to live with something to really know what needs changing smile

Exciting times.
