i'm no mot expert, just trying to help. experts will be along soon...
but your extract states reason for failure "speedo clearly not working" which tester may notice while on rolling road doing brake tests?
Agreed but there are guys in the UK running these things because I first came across them here so I am kind of assuming it won't be an issue but will check. There is an MOT station next to the restorers -but your extract states reason for failure "speedo clearly not working" which tester may notice while on rolling road doing brake tests?

Hi there,
Speedo has to be working if fitted, yours will work so there is no problem. End of that subject.
Secondly the gauges. Ignore the guff about them not being white as they will look too modern or whatever... they will look spot on with the black. Personally I think the leaper is the way to go, but they all look good.
Love this project and I think you are going to end up with the perfect blend of classic car and modern luxuries... meaning you can use it every day without compromise. I think that is the point some people are missing here.
Keep up the good work and ignore the purists.

Jesus I bet you're a barrel of laughs at parties. OK so I would like some opinions on what to do with the front end. As you know I am making a modern looking grille and the meshing below the bumper will match this. I am also removing the indicator unit as they will be built in on the new headlights and as I wont be needing front spots they are coming out too. Pic below to remember what the original car looks like.
If i take out the indicator unit and the spots that leaves quite a big metal area on each side so I was thinking of creating an air vent in that location on each side but stumped for style. This is the area as it stands. You can clearly see the aperatures for the indicators and the spot lights that are no longer needed. -
So options wise I was thinking -
1) just leave the round spotlight hole as a vent (neaten it up of course) and then mesh behind it like the grille
2) create a vent like on the modern XF
3) create a vent like on the X350
Any other ideas????

I think you need to 'track' the centre vent on to the lower front wings. i.e. there has to be cohesion between the lower centre and the lower front wing vents. Size/shape wise I would lean towards the X350, the XF style will look wrong as the car's angles don't merit it and round holes willnbot give that cohesion. If i take out the indicator unit and the spots that leaves quite a big metal area on each side so I was thinking of creating an air vent in that location on each side but stumped for style. That's my 2 cents worth anyway.
Still my favourite car/project on the whole of PH! Thanks for the updates.

I agree. Mirror the style of the central vent to continue the look. I think the more modern style vents will jar quite badly.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
