They look good on the Alpine. I think you will be pleased with them on the Jaaaaaag.

I think that would be a bit too much for me.

Good luck with the project chap.
There will be no spotlights and the headlights wont look like that. This is the perils of photoshop hehe

Back on its wheels and under its own power for the first time since end of May. Just having the horrific nose piercing removed and them it's paint prep time. Hopefully by the end of September it will be gleaming Mercedes Obsidian Black.

The car next to it is from Singapore and was delivered to the restorer as 1000 bits in a crate having been in progress of a restoration elsewhere when they went bust. Almost ready to go after about a year. Not a jigsaw I would have wanted to take on.

Is it an optical illusion or is yours sitting noticeably higher? If so is it just the wheels causing it?

Mine is on 17s with sports suspension not the standard 15s and saggy crap. It's been up on stands for a long while so needs to settle. Will ride about 20mm lower than a standard coupe when it's done

I want to run the car on black and silver plates when its done so I will be buying a dateless registration so that it looks right. I know thats not strictly right but I will be only 9 months away from the new cut off date for B&S of January 1975.

I have been thinking of what plate to buy though. Random letters and numbers of something car related like 6008 XJ that i saw for sale recently.

What is your view on XJ related plate? especially seeing as there will be no XJ badging on the car.

By the time you get it on the road, it'll be Jan 76 anyway.

Thing is there is some confusion around that. They raised the age of cars that can use B&S plates from 73 to Jan 75 last year whilst at the same time putting the historic vehicle tax class on a rolling basis. My car is now able to be covered under the historic vehicle tax but the two are not necessarily linked. The only information from DVLA is this -

Which suggests that the B&S plates may also roll with it. However, it is clumsily written and I have contacted the DVLA and two large MOT stations and they have said that the B&S plate date will not move with the tax exemption and the car will fail. Not that I care because if thats the case I will put yellow and white on just for the MOT

The FBHVC did some digging, and looked into the actual legislation. Their line is that it IS acceptable...

I hope they dont roll it every year though because it wont be long until you see Escort Mk3's etc on B&S plates and that will look awful hehe

So would like my R230 blacked out Merc on black/silver plates.... the huge stupid yellow plate on the back spoils the look of the car, but we're a way off 2005 qualifying wink

No to the XJ plate btw - think it's a but done to death. Get something more personal to you like CRG 50K - the latter part being how much this will have cost .... just kidding :-)

Haha that's not far wrong hehe
I think I agree with you, would look more natural without the XJ

Saw this and thought of your car.

Interesting tyre combo! One pic for a 16 grand car seems a bit niggardly.

Looks pretty good from a distance. My car is in the queue at the paint shop seeing as I lost my original slot because of all of the extra work I had to do. The pound going through the floor isn't helping me either with things I'm having made in the US like the lights and the gauges. Found somewhere in the UK to make me a set of tread plates in the style I want and they will also engrave the jaguar name in colour on the spinners on the Halibrand wheels when they are done. The outside is coming together. Toying with some ideas for inside and engine setup.

If it's been done properly it must be 40k minimum. The 6 is not as desirable as the 12. I got called an historical vandal on the facebook group and told I should put mine back to standard and find the original engine hehe

Onwards and upwards

Not sure that I entirely agree with this. The 6 is cheaper and easier to maintain and thus is likely to be have better looked after than the 12. Not really an issue if you are going to restore, but something to consider if looking for something that is good to go.
